How does one force his z-buffer to a certain setting?

Me and a million other peopel are having the same z-buffering problem in EVE Online. The 3d models for things are quite complex and are normally viewed from an extreem distance, this is apparently overloading the z-buffer and producing images like these:

<A HREF="http://pages.sbcglobal.net/timothyb/_images/other/error_2.jpg" target="_new">http://pages.sbcglobal.net/timothyb/_images/other/error_2.jpg</A>
<A HREF="http://pages.sbcglobal.net/timothyb/_images/other/error_3.jpg" target="_new">http://pages.sbcglobal.net/timothyb/_images/other/error_3.jpg</A>
<A HREF="http://pages.sbcglobal.net/timothyb/_images/other/error_4.jpg" target="_new">http://pages.sbcglobal.net/timothyb/_images/other/error_4.jpg</A>

borrowed these images from another guy working on this problem.

I know that there is probobly no way to force the z-buffer to 32-bit for nvidia cards, but we're not sure if its even set at 16-bit for EVE. is there any way to adjust/force the z-buffer to a setting that might fix this glitch???

NOTE: this z-buffering problem occurs on all makes and models of all video cards with this game. ATI and Nvidia alike.

actually this problem is occuring on all video cards, ATI and Nvidia.

i believe that this problem is not related to the limitations of the video card's hardware, but that the z-buffer is set abnormally low by default, i jsut want to be able to force it to a higher setting and see if that fixes the problem.

(its probobly set to 16bit by default, even though most cards can do 24bit, and ATI cards can do 32bit. But if we dont TELL it to run it that large, it probobly wont!)

ROFL YOU ACTUALLY PLAY THAT GAME!!!

i bought it for 70 dollars .. it DIDINT come with a free month but i hassled the PR department into giving me one.. thank god they did, because after one week i quit. yes, it was that bad. i guess you must be a miner at heart, because thats what that game is : a space mining simulator..

travelling? be prepared to need good reading material. no im not a low attention span FPS player.. in fact i playd quite a few mmorpg and play Anarchy Online daily .. but Eve Online is a p.o.s. game

anyways

as to yor problem .. theres nothing wrong with the Z buffer... what the game needs is to be able to use a "W-Buffer"

basically, a zbuffer loses precision as objects get further away from the point of view. a w-buffer does the same job as a z-buffer but doesnt lose precision.. its not quite as fast, but you dont get artifacts like that.

its a problem with MMORPG games because they quite often have wide open landscapes that span for miles and miles...

Anarchy Online (which i play about 3 hours per day.. put a 14 hour leveling binge in on friday night LOL) has the option to use the w-buffer.. you can turn it off, but you get artifacts exactly like you describe above in those pictures.

again behold the great intelligence of the makers of Eve Online.. not even enableing the option for w-buffer.
