I just bought a Radeon 9800 at Circuit City for $249. Got it home, installed it, and it's recognized as a Radeon 9800 PRO by everything, icluding the ATI Catalyst software.

Did I really get lucky and get a R9800P instead of a R9800?

I get 13,748 in 3DMark 2001SE, and 4773 in 3DMark 03. Do those scores sound about right for an R9800P?

Does anyone know how I can confirm for sure what I have?

Thanks.

Tell us the Chip & Memory specs of your new card & then we will be able to determine once & for all wheter your 9800 is a "pro" or not.

Oh BTW, on a 13.7K sounds a little low for either a 9800 or a 9800Pro, but its probably okay if you have a slower system.

My OS features preemptive multitasking, a fully interactive command line, & support for 640K of RAM!

If have a high-end CPU, then I think you've got a Radeon 9800 non-PRO.

Catalyst is not very good at identifying PRO/non-PRO. My Gigabyte Radeon 9000 (non-PRO) is identified as Radeon 9000 PRO in driver.

Check your GPU/VRAM clock with PowerStrip to confirm PRO/non-PRO

Someone bought the card, flashed a 9800Pro bios onto it, didnt like the results, then returned the card. Circuit City has been a target of people buying graphics cards lately because of their return policy. Circuit City also repackages returned cards and sells them.
I would return the card.

I don't know, they did a good job if they re-packaged it, including what looks like an ATI factory sticker on the shrink-wrap. Everything inside looked like it was never touched.

Who knows?

I have an XP 2400+ OCed to 2600 speed.

Powerstrip gave me:

Identity - RADEON 9800 PRO
Memory clock - 290.25 MHz
Engine clock - 324.00 MHz

Is that enough info, or do you need more?

Thanks.

Yeah, I thought about that as soon as I posted, LOL.

I would think I'd be the first to know if I did.

The BIOS is: BK-ATI VER008.004.008.018. Does that tell you whether or not someone flashed the BIOS?

Thanks.
