NWN and possible error with Cat 3.8?

This never happened before so maybe someone can check this out for me, but if I try to alt-tab or winkey out of Neverwinter Nights with the expansion pack installed I get a very hard error in which the computer completely black screens and I have to restart or the program quits and I get a prompt to send an error report to ATI as well as a prompt to restart my computer to regain the ability to use my videocard again.

Anyone wanna try this? Let me know if it's me, the game, or the drivers.

Thanks

Buy me a copy of NWN and I'd be happy to.

I'll check the forums tomorrow and see what I can find (got some drinking to catch up on now).

He DH, you can determine if the error is Catalyst 3.8 related by temporarily reverting back to your previous version of Catalyst drivers if it was working fine before. If the problem still occurs, then its probably not Catalyst related. Its not a definite solution but I hope that it can at least help guide us in the troubleshooting process.

3.8's suck. I've never seen so many complaints about a recent cat release. Especially the overheating problems. The new cats killed a guys card due to over heating coz he had the 9800 flashed to pro that worked fine on the 3.7's.....

Did you have Catalyst 3.7? Snorkius was saying that there is alot of probs witht he newa catalystk so I woud definitely give my "revert" idea a shot and see if your problem is resolved.

Get rid of the 3.8s bro.
Check out my post in this section on them.

They are putting monitors out of range and killing them as well as overheating cards to the point of death.

This is the ATI I remember. Shouldve stuck with my gut instinct and stayed away. I'm just glad my card didnt burn out, mine was overheating.

Just double checking. You are saying to ensure fast-writes is ON ?

First time I've ever heard that as being a cure to a problem, usually the CAUSE of issues for most people.

I had a problem with Fast-Writes for the first time ever with the Omega drivers (and I mean crashing all over the place). Turned it off, and voila, no problem.

If that is the answer to DH's problems that would really be interesting to find out WHY?

Omega mentioned something about that in a note regarding his tweaked version of the 3.8.x drivers.

Here it is...

"If you are experiencing crashes or black screens just a few seconds after entering a game, DISABLE VPU RECOVER, that should fix it."

I guess that's not quite the same as you are describing but I'd try the "fix" just to confirm.

I put my old GF2 back in and the problem is gone. Those 3.8's seemed to have some issues.
