Hi all, I just got a LiteOn 16x DVD/48x CD rom and have an Asus 52x24x52 CDRW. What is the best software to copy DVD's onto VCD's or SVCD's? I have the 99 min 870 mb cdr's, which the burner can handle all of it.
Any input would greatly be appreciated.
question. (i haven't use the product yet, or downloaded it either) have you used this dvd ripper? My goal is to find a program that can rip DVD's onto my hard drive into a cd size divx compression format (ie: 4.7gig dvd to a 700meg cd) and be able to play in my CD player, not my DVD player. This ripper makes many claims to work just fine in your dvd drive, but can the cd's you create work in the CD drive as well (as long as you have the proper coderec codes?)

If I'm reading your question correcty, Yes, in fact the entire point is to do what you are asking. The software re-compresses the original DVD MPEG2 into a new Divx or MPEG4 file. The new Divx file is normally 700 or 1400 MB so it can be burned onto one or two regular CDs. My laptop did not have a DVD player so the only way I could view movies on my laptop was to take the DVD and convert it to a divx that would run off a regular (computer) CD player. Of course you realize that a stereo CD player is not going to work (right?). If you ever did get a DVD burner the divx software is still useful for shrinking the movies down in size so that you could burn more then one movie on one DVD blank. I'm speaking about the FREE software I suggested not the other but I'm betting that the other software is similar.

You originally asked about VCD or SVCD both of which can be used in stand alone DVD players. Later you asked about Divx which (other then one brand new player) can NOT be used on stand alone DVD players. EXACTLY what are you trying to do?
