For that money its worth it. Get the XT. Only about 3-7fps difference in most games, but at $20 over a pro, its worth it.

I have a better option!

4:Sapphire Radeon 9600 Atlantis PRO 128MB
AGP,ATI9600PRO,DVI-I,TV-Out, Lite Retail for 200$

Take it at <A HREF="http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduct.asp?description=14-102-291" target="_new">newegg</A> for only $148 plus $5 shipping! That beats all your other options, best bang for the buck!

The 9600XT's well worth it for the Half Life 2 voucher.

Other than that, any 9600 PRO will do.

But stay away from anything with an SE behind it. Horrible and overpriced.

Also, doesn't the 'lite' version have very slow memory? Not sure that's a good buy at any price...

Bottom line:

Go $225 "fireblade edition" (great memory for overclocking I believe) unless you will buy half-life 2 anyway, in which case you can't beat the XT.

From <A HREF="http://www.sapphiretech.com/vga/9600pro.asp" target="_new">Saphire</A> website:

"Full retail indicates that the package contains the entire bundle including the Game software bundle and utilities. <b>The Lite retail versions do not come bundled with the software bundle and are packaged with the neccessities needed to enjoy the pinnacle in performance from Sapphire alone.</b>"

So Lite does not equal "SE", means without goodies. Saphire has a 9600 SE version, but Lite version is as good as Full retail. I suppose package/accessories will be something between Retail and OEM.

The XT gives very little performance boost over the pro but it looks cooler than the pro. You wont notice a change between the 2 with your gamming.

And how do you know that?...do you own one?
Why dont you try forming an oppinion based on first hand knowledge instead of trying to be cool and act like you know what your talking about.

Heh, at those prices you could get an AIW 9600 Pro. They clock just as high as the XT and have FASTER RAM, 2.6ns Samsung, rated by Samsung at 385MHz (DDR770) and good to 400MHz (DDR800) with ramsinks.

Can you wait?

Supposedly they are going to respin the R9600XT to make it more competitive (and hopefully pop on better ram). I personally would wait for more news. And maybe consider what GW said, but only if the reviews show that the PS2.0/DX9 issues aren't still on the FX5700.

However from what you've posted I'd say if you aren't overclcoking anything, then the XT is the best choice. If you are willing to risk overclocking, then the Fireblade is a really cgood choice, as it has the guaranteed fast memory (guaranteed to clock to minimum of 325mhz, and usually comes with the 2.86ns Samsung memory memory, which in my case reaches 360+ stable (my core reaches 530+ stable). The core of the XT clocks much higher than the pro versions due to the new process (alot of reviewers have broken the 600mhz barrier with stock cooling), but the memory is the main drawback right now (one reviewer showed that an increase in the core speed of the XT resulted in minimal increases, but increasing the memory adding as much as 10+% performance increase on just a slight OC of the feeble memory.

The problem with the REGULAR Sapphire Atlantis (ie non-fireblade) is that it can ship with a variety of memory modules from 2.86ns to the 3.3ns modules, and thus may not OC well.

I wouldn't bother with the lite at all; and the R9800SE is too expensive for a card that has a low chance of mod success, and isn't up to the performance of a stock R9600P when left in standard config.

I would say your best deals are the XT and Fireblade, the question is what do you value more in it. Check various benchmarks (I posted a bunch a while back) and see if it plays the games YOU like better. Some of the new features of the XT are attractive and may be worth it if they appeal to you.

But like I said before, I'd wait just a tiny bit longer for more info about an R9600XT re-spin and the FX5700 info.

Crash do you have any of the review with the AIW with that memory? All the ones I've read so far show the same 2.86ns memory as on my card, they just clocked it higher. If they have memory like that on the AIW, why the F'* don't they slap it on the XT? Cheesy if you ask me!

My mistake, someone misinterpreted the values, it really is 2.86ns.

Or you can try the cards from Transcend.

I'll be getting 9600 Pro on Tuesday, if you want to know how it's clocked and what memory it uses. (Info on this card is scarce on the web, but I'm taking the chance)

Details on the card is at

http://transcendusa.com/VGA/VGAProduct.asp?id=22&Lang=

I hope it performs as good as it looks. The 'made by ATI' is rather bland. I don't know about the Sapphires.

Dang, I was hoping. :frown:

There is a store in town selling the R9600AIW for less than $300CDN, and it MIGHT be a nice swap out for the current model if I can recoup $200 from the sale of the R9600P to a friend who's been interested in it. All the VIVO and such would be a nice bonus, plus the nice overclockable memory.
I'm tempted, but it's probably not a good idea considering the amount of TV I watch from digital cable and Sat. which I would have to feed through a second converter box (or remove the sat receiver for PiP from the living room). I like the AIW line, I've had 2 of them before and a VIVO RageFury.

Oh well I'll wait for the RV380 or R42X version.

Then it would definitely be a good addition if it's still only $99 extra, and who knows, maybe ATI will take advantage of the PCI-EX bus to add HDTV in of some kind (yes with compression of course), now that would make me rush out and also grab a $500 HDTV tuner. Dang, I better start saving now.

I think i can wait, i need the new graphicscard to hl 2 and doom 3, and it can take some time before they will come out...
And i don't want to buy a FX 5700, i don't like nvida´s cards.
