I am using an HP Presario Laptop that is continuously plugged in,so it is not
a question of power- and I HAVE checked the power options.
My computer started randomly restarting on the 21st, with no error message
or anything. It seems to only do it on every other day and when I am running
a process that is using a great deal of memory.
I am not a computer newbie, and have thoroughly checked for any virus or
glitch, and found none. I have disabled automatic startup but have seen no
BSOD.
I checked the event viewer, and found what seems to be the problem. A Event
titled (ccPwdSvc) keeps starting and immediately terminating, and taking my
computer down with it.
Before the 21st, it was functioning properly, only starting and never
terminating. I did not do any system changes on the 21st, nor did I install
any new software. I am still using SP1, because of how flaky I saw a friend's
computer go with SP2. I daily run virus updates and WAU and system checks,
but have found nothing.
My question is: what is ccPwdSvc, what can have caused it to start
malfunctioning, and HOW DO I MAKE IT STOP?
Any information will be greatly appreciated!

ccPwdSvc is - Common Client Windows Account Validation Service.

This task is part of the Norton 2003/4 security products (AntiVirus,
Personal Firewall, Internet Security) and used on Windows 2000/XP/2003.

CCPWDSVC is used when you configure the Norton Firewall to only allow access
to the Internet to specific users. When that is the case, and when the
Norton Firewall has been configured to check a user’s username and password
against the ones defined on the Windows PC, then this task is invoked to
validate the password entered by the user who is trying to access the
Internet.

Have you run Live Update to Norton's or observed any automatic updates since
the 21st?

I suggest you contact SYmantec Technical SUpport, if this is the application
that's brining your system down.
