anybody else disappointed by the fact that you can't get a temperature reading off a gpu that is advertised as knowing the temperature so that it can "auto" overclock? seems that the overdrive(tm) feature in cat3.8 is just as limiting as not being able to oc at all, since you have zero control over it.

has anyboy concocted a utility to read the temp yet? and are the third party utilties for oc-ing radeons compatible with r360?

Seriously dude, whomever gave you those Catalyst 9.8 drivers to download sold you magic beans. I think those are about 5 years early.

BTW, did you even bother reading about the Catalyst drivers or your card?

I guess not because you're asking these shtoopid questions!

The features you are 'missing' aren't coming until the CAT 3.9 drivers, as stated by ATI and every review site that reviewed the XT series and Overdrive features and such. But I guess you forgot to research before you bought and complained.

Here you can read about it in this R9600XT review (I don't bookmark R9800 stuff): <A HREF="http://techreport.com/reviews/2003q4/radeon-9600xt/index.x?pg=1" target="_new">http://techreport.com/reviews/2003q4/radeon-9600xt/index.x?pg=1</A>
Second Paragraph of the RV360 GPU section.

yeah, yeah, typos are fun, especially when you just got back... FROM THE FUTURE!

seriously, though. I'm quoting that linked article:

"Like the recently announced R360 GPU, which powers the Radeon 9800 XT, the RV360 supports GPU core temperature monitoring. Temperature monitoring is necessary for ATI's new OVERDRIVE automatic overclocking software, which will come to the Radeon 9600 XT in the Catalyst 3.9 driver release, slated for November. (The RV360 has all the necessary hardware support for OVERDRIVE to work, but the Cat 3.9s aren't ready yet.) Since OVERDRIVE will initially only offer the 9600 XT overclocked speeds of 513 and 527MHz, old fashioned overclocking may be a route for experienced enthusiasts."

Overdrive is a feature available in Catalyst 3.8. At least for the 9800XT. I'm looking at it right now. I don't know about the 9600XT, I don't read reviews for cards I'm not going to buy. The many reviews I DID read for the 9800XT said Overdrive would be available in Cat3.8, but they didn't say anything about "oh and they will add in all the useful features like a temperature display and frequency sliders later on in Cat3.9".

Even Tom's <A HREF="http://www.tomshardware.com/graphic/20030930/radeon_9800-04.html" target="_new">reported Overdrive as available in "November"</A>, but as 3.8, not 3.9. Guess what, they came out early, boo hoo. w4h. Guess i'm not then only one makin typos. (I blame ATI, seems they are the ones who stated November initially).

Doesn't change the fact that Overdrive panel consists of a single solitary option: "Enable OVERDRIVE(tm)".

Well actually you can read them you just need the right tool. Which many review have used (one I even posted here a while back).

It's integral to Overdrive, but displaying the info to you is not (although it is a nice added touch that most people would want).

The ability to display the info native in the catalyst drivers is supposed to come out later, and it's rumoured that it's the Cat 3.9, but then again nothing is guaranteed, and neither was your ability to read the temperature monitoring.

Until then you'll need the right app.

RivaTuner. Although it is in the reviews I posted (DigitLife actually shows it in action). I was kinda hoping you'd look for it. But, so be it.

thank you  .

p.s. - that really hurt didn't it. I bet your finger bled while you typed it.

p.p.s. - i have checked out multiple 3rd party utils, none of them state radeon 9800 xt support specifically as of yet btw.

Seiously why bother with the p.s.(s)?

If you were able to figure it out yourself fine.

I'll simply let it go as a stranger's ignorance. In the future I'll simply ignore the question, as I see so many other people replied and supplied you with the info.

Whatever, I'm gonna go home and watch the Bruins clobber the Habs, and just ignore this whole thread.
