Thanks, I'll give those a try later. Especially since they are meant for my kind of card R9600. I think I'll go with the one without the altered .ini file (behind link #1) or take what's in the BOX!

Loaded them last night (the catalyst39winXP2K.exe version) ran for 24 hours without issue ,played a few sessions of Halo, surfed, and such. I was happy UNTIL..

I noticed that they don't appear to be CAT 3.9s or anything like them. They appear to be CAT 3.7 (that's what the cntrol panel says), and they lack the following;

- No VPU recovery.
- No 3D tab (seperate OGL and Direct 3D tabs)
- No Shader effects
- Same old options layout of the CAT 3.7s

So I uninstalled and tried the FIRST set ( the win-xp-2k-614106396.exe version), THIS is when I ran into problems. SAME outcome for the control panel and such. NOW here's the problem, when I went to unintall them from the add/remove panel I get a error in initializaing, so now you can't uninstall them through the normal fashon. WTF?!?
So I went into my Drivers folder, pulled out the full 3.8 version, and voila, I'm back to the good stuff.

If this is someone's joke due to the Cat 3.8 BS, then it's just lame. These don't appear to be 3.9s and they appear to have enough issues to skip altogether.

Oh well, it was worth experimenting, but I think I'll stick to reliable sources (I thought I could trust theGuRu).

Heheh, no wonder people aren't that fussy about ATi making beta releases or leaked drivers.

Exactly.

I went back to the REGULAR Catalyst 3.8 drivers. I'm going to install the 3.9 drivers when they come out, but I think I'll avoid the OMEGA's until the NEXT version and see what people have to say about those. I'm even done with 'leaked' Omegas.

MMmmm was able to turn fast writes on again yesterday. Woohoo!

I'm using the OMEGA 2.4.96b right now, it's still not benchmarking good but atleast it's stable... what's wrong with them?

The Leaked Omegas do appear to increase core temps according to the tests @ DH, but they were run on an R9800Pro, not an R9600. The problem for ME was with Fast-writes. With it on they crashed my system constantly, and I never had problems before.

So instead of re-installing the Omegas I've decided to go with the Cat 3.8 reference drivers (I'm not all THAT interested in more OGL effects for now).

That's been my experience, your mileage may very well vary.
