I have recently aquired 2 video cards. 1 is a GeForce Ti 4200 128MB 4x for $140CDN. The second is the Sapphire ATI Radeon 9600 Pro for $200CDN. Not sure which one to keep and which to sell. Any info is appreciated. I am looking to possibly overclock them as well, I know the 4200 can be overclocked a decent amount. Not sure about the 9600 pro tho.
Cheers,
Shaun

First of all will you be doing gaming?

Second of all do you plant to use Ansiotropic Filtering and FSAA?

If you don't game or do not use ansiotropic filtering in your games, then keep the Ti4200 and sell the 9600 Pro for more money.

If you want to ensure longer compatibility with games for the next 2 or 3 years (if you keep a card that long) or want top use lots of AF or FSAA then go for the Radeon 9600 and sell the Ti4200

Yes I will be using it for gaming. Playing lots of BF 1942, Homeworld 2, SOF 2, B&W, Jedi Knight 2 and NOLF 2. Hmm seeing as my cards have always been junk up until now I am not sure about the FSAA and AF but I am assuming that yes I will be using them during my gaming?
Thanks

You can say that again! a Geforce MX 420 64MB is not a very good card for gaming.

Get the 9600 Pro, AF and AA are 1337 and well worth it.

Hard choice. The 9600 is newer, and slightly better = more money when you sell. The Ti is older, and "last generation" = less money.

This is the way I would approach it. If you are cash strapped, and need money, sell the 9600. If you are financially secure (ie, you have lot's of money), sell the Ti 4200.

Is there anything really more to say?

You're really looking at two different generations of graphics cards. If you're only planning on playing those games that you mentioned then keep the Ti card. The Ti4200 is still a good performer, but as the DX9 games continue to hit the shelves the card's performance will deteriorate, and Doom 3 looks awfully bland with dynamic lighting and bump-maps turned off. A year ago it wouldn't have mattered, but nowadays it makes more sense to go with a graphics card that supports DirectX 9.

Get Halo. Run it on bothe cards at max quality, then decide.
