Errrr ok I m still on my Geforce256 :$ . ergo, i m not rich, at all. Anyway, i ve decided to upgrade my gfx card and i m not sure whether to go for the 9600 pro or the 9700... I dont have enough money to buy the 9700 right now, but is it worht waiting 2-3 months for the price to drop? Is the 9600 oboslete within 6months? When do u think the 9700 will fall by about $50-100? Any help appreciated :)

I think the 9700's price will stay as it is or maybe drop by 10-20 at most.

The 9600pro will not be oboslete within 6 months because judging from current DX9 benchmark it will run them just fine.(although not on max detail)

If you're pressed for cash, the 9600 will serve you very well, and be a great leap over your old Geforce.

If you're upgrading to play future titles like Doom3 or HL2, then I encourage you to wait until those titles are released.

Radeon 9500 (hardmodded to PRO, o/c to 322/322)
AMD AthlonXP 2400+ (o/c to 2600+ with 143 fsb)
3dMark03: 4055

the 9600pro is many times more powerful compared to your Geforce256 ... definatly worth the upgrade.

BUT, a 9700non-pro would be much much better... its basically in the same catagory as teh high end 9800pros and 5900ultras.. clocked lower, but definatly able to keep pace with a 5900ultra (surpasses it in DX9 games)

all depends how much you wanna spend now. of course gettin the best card would be awesome, because you owuldnt have to upgrade as soon but of course not everyone can afford that

Since it sounds like your cash strapped, I'd say go with the 9600, although shop around, see if you can find a 9700np for cheap. It is much better then the 9600.
You could argue about waiting a couple of months for the price to drop, but by then new hardware will be out, and you'll be asking yourself, should I get the 9600xt?, or wait a couple of more months? It's an endless cycle, you have to buy sometime. Might as well be this week
I bought my 9600Pro the week it came out, and I have never regretted paying the higher price.

Is there anything really more to say?

Captain Obvious has seen R9600Pro 128mb cards going for 130-140 Dollars!

If you can save up that much then you will get a very nice card indeed!
