I cant get a decent 30 FPS(at 1024x768,32,high detail settings)..I'm facing this problem with all the new games on my P4 2.4c,256 MB DDR RAM,GeForce FX 5200 128 MB,80 GB HD..I've defragmented my HD,turned off vsync,AA,AF and did everything I can to improve my performance... could someone please tell me where the bottleneck could be...is it the RAM ? Does my framerate improve if I upgrade to 512 MB ? plz help
Thanks
Well its both. Your RAM starved with your setup. I run a gig for gaming. 512 of some good RAM would be a minimum with what your running. 5200 isn't much of a vid card, really. The RAM will help the vid card though.

Thanks RCPilot !!
So if I upgrade my RAM to 512 MB DDR,I'll get more than 30 FPS..right ?..yes the fx 5200 is a crappy card..but I cant just dump it(only 4 months since I've bought)...BTW,is 512 enough or should I go for 1 GB...does too much RAM hurt ?
Thanks again
Well I can't tell you how many FPS you'll get. It's been a long time since I ran 256. I ran 512 for a couple of years. I've been running a gig for about 4 months now.
512 is definitely going to help a lot. A gig is on the edge. It helps some, but not as much from 256 to 512. A gig really makes my CD burners crank though.
Get some good cas 2.0 RAM as well. I run Hyper X & think it's great RAM, myself.

That's up to you for sure. I run a gig just for G. P. I don't look at it as expensive, but that's me. I have the luxury of swapping thing in & out as I want because I'm always selling machines.

If you running WinXp, 512mb ram will improve performance across the board.
However, with the graphic card you have you shouldnt be running in 1024*768+high setting in new games. Turn setting down a notch like 800*600+medium setting, the game will be more playable that way.
PS. 256mb ram is barely enough to keep Xp running.
