Hi,

can anyone help me with my problem here? My system is win2k, athlon xp 1600, Gainward GeForce ti4200 128 MB Golden sample or somekind like that. When i tried to play ms flight sim my comp restarted w/o reason. Then i played GunBound, the same thing happened. To figure out what is the problem, i run the D3D hardawre accelerator from expert tool (from gainward). I passed the D3D7, but when i tested for the D3d8, my comp restarted. Can someone help me how to solve this problem? Below i post the VGA information from the expert tool.

Thank you very much,

Regards,

If I'm not mistaken, d3d8 is a DirectX component...you might want to try re-installing DirectX, although I'm not sure that a DX problem would cause your computer to re-boot.

hi,

thanks for the reply. I want to correct my statement. Actually my comp is not re booting, but my monitor went blank and entered the stand by mode. Any idea? I do not hear any weird sound though.

Thanks,

Sorry, I was a bit lazy last time and didn't read your long post fully.

It appears to me that you have not updated your Nvidia graphics card drivers for some time now. (18 Months!!!)

Go to the Nvida.com website and download the latest drivers(52.16). Install them and let us know how it goes....

Here is a link for the driver <A HREF="http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_52.16" target="_new">http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_52.16</A>

What kind of monitor you got? It could be the refresh rate or resolution is set too high. Check your resolution and your refresh rate.

Hi,

ok. actually i also thought my monitor might be the problem. But i never tested it with lower resolution and refresh rate though. It is a normal CRT, not too good i think. :p. I didnt buy it, my parents bought it for me. Currently i set to 1024x768, 75 hz. So, is it the cause? cos if i lower the refresh rate, the flickering is quite noticeable. Thanks

Sounds like overheating or power supply issues to me. How hot is your processor running and what is your case temp? Have you recently changed anything in your system (Is the Ti4200 new)?

Nope. The ti4200 is about 1 year. I checked the temp from the bios, it is 52 deg C. The power supply that i use is Enermax 350. I tried to run the test (the D3D8) right after i boot my comp, the same thing happened, then i check the temp after i rebooted it, it was 52 deg C. Actually i just installed a new HD, and USB printer. But the problem was there before i installed them. Actually I am not a serious gamer, I just realized the problem when i played (or rather tried) the flight sim. The last game that i played with the same system (w/o the HD and printer) was sim city 4. It ran ok, no glitch, the graphic smooth. I am not sure if the sim city using the D3D8.

Thank you for the reply. :D

You may want to check that you have the correct monitor drivers...Windows will install "Default Monitor" drivers on its own...I have had problems with that in the past.

To find out, right click on your desktop and select Properties, then click on the "Settings" tab, then on Advanced, then click on the "Monitor" tab.

See what it says in "monitor type", and if it says Default Monitor, then you should try a search on the internet for the correct drivers for your specific monitor.

Another thing to try would be to "override refresh rates"...some games try to set their own refresh rates, maybe FSim is trying to use a refresh rate that your monitor can't support. I have to do that for one game I play regularly..

That setting can be found by a similar path that you followed above. After clicking on Settings and Advanced, look for a tab that says "GeForce Ti4200" and click on that one. Then look for a tab that says Refresh Rate Override or something like that...I'm not at home now to look at my Nvidia control panel and confirm exactly where it is, but if you need more help finding it, I can look again when I get home. Then you just have to go through each resolution that you use, and change "Default" to 75Hz since you know that works.

Yo, :D

At last i tried to change the refresh rate. I changed it to 60 Hz. At last, i can run the D3D8. Well, my old CRT. :p. Oh yeah, actually I also ran the D3D9 test, it ran for just about 1 to two sec, then after that the same thing happened. Just want to check with u guys, should my vga card able to run the D3D9?

Thanks alot. :D

Here's a long shot. The fan on my 9600 pro stopped working so I threw my GF4 Ti4200 in while I wait for my RMA. Things were working fine for a couple of days and then my sysem started acting up. Games would freeze, monitor would go blank (black), couldn't run direct3d tests....

I played around with drivers and the situation did not change. My system was fine in 2d it just would not run 3d apps. I uninstalled and re-installed Directx and finally I decided to format. Guess what? Same problem.

Just as a fluke I pulled the GF4 out of the slot and looked into it with a flashlight and sure enough there was some dust in there. Somehow I must have lodged it in there when I swapped cards. Now everything is back to normal.

The aim of military training is not just to prepare men for battle, but to make them long for it. <A HREF="http://forums.btvillarin.com/index.php?act=ST&f=41&t=327&s" target="_new"><b>MY SYSTEM</b></A>

I had the exact same problem a couple of weeks ago - monitor dropping to powersave - ran through all of these suggestions and replaced my PS with a brand new Antec350W - nothing...after a while my computer wouldnt even boot - I accidently tried to boot without my video card in and it proceeded much father than it had been. To make a long story shorter it turned out it was my video card - if you remove your card look at the two blue capacitors closest to the CRT out port - mine had leaked a very small amount of brownish fluid (one out the top, the other near the bottom) I can only assume this is the problem - I am currently running on a 16MB TNT card I had laying around while I decide on a new Direct 9.0 card to buy...

The Ti4200 supports only up to DirectX 8.0...That said, I'm not sure that running a DX9 app would cause it to crash, but I suppose its possible.....
