How do I get a UK TV guide on my Palm?

I want to be able to set alarms for individual programmes, and choose
which channels to display (from Freeview only). I want offline-viewing
(I can't get online on my Palm). I'm happy to pay *once*, but given that
freeview boxes get a 14-day guide for free, I don't like the idea of
paying a subscription. Is there anything that hooks into the freeview
service or similar?

I've seen and dismissed the Radio Times guide (unless they've updated it
recently) - hard to use, ugly, doesn't utilise five-way nav,
feature-sparse, requires subscription.

I don't live in the UK but if you can find a guide on the net then
create a "custom channel" with that address at AvantGo.com. Good places
to look are TV stations and major news papers.

Just checking... There is allready an AvantGo channel available:
"myDigiGuide allows you to get customised UK and Irish televesion and
radio listings on a daily basis from your choice of over 220 major
Digital and Terrestrial channels. With advanced features such as
auto-searching and favourite programme highlighting, you won't miss
anything now with this great UK TV guide!"

Here you go :-)

Here is a place for you to start looking:

http://www.radiotimes.com/content/pdamobile/

I noticed this feature over a year ago when I was still watching TV on
occasions. I also was an avid AvantGo user, but never used it as a TV
guide. It is definitely something to consider. I can't recall any AvantGo
channels that provided UK TV listings, but the last time I looked was
around 2 years ago.

All the best,

Roy

Hmmm. I don't know very much about AvantGo but was under the impression
it was a kind of offline-browser for internet content. This doesn't
seem (to me) to be the sort of thing I'm after; sure, I can see a list
of selected channels but I can do that on my laptop at radiotimes.com.

Before I jump through the hoops required to get this working (if at
all) on Mac OSX [1] is it likely I'll be able to set alarms, view a
diary of programmes I'm interested in, etc etc? Or is it just going to
be a list?

Not sure if that describes the desktop version rather than the handheld
version. I'll give it a go, though it will probably have to wait until
the weekend because it looks like a big job.

It looks like all my choices are subscription-only. Bah.

Thanks for the help!

That *is* the place I started looking. That's why my original post said
"I've seen and dismissed the Radio Times guide (unless they've updated
it recently) - hard to use, ugly, doesn't utilise five-way nav,
feature-sparse, requires subscription."

Thanks anyway,

It is quite easy to sync avantgo on OSX with help of Mal Conduit:

I haven't tried this Avantgo channel but you can preview channels in
your browser at avantgo.com.

Haven't tried it, but for the TV listings have you tried Plucker to
download TV Listings from any of the sites for offline viewing?

Could be worth a look until you find something more suitable.

Anything on Version Tracker?

Best of luck in your search.

I've managed to configure Pocket TV Viewer to run with xmltv grabber
which can download *free* listings from the UK Radio Times site. The
only info it doesn't include is the Videoplus code which is a shame.
You can select exactly which channels to diaplay and group them into
favourites / genre lists etc if you need to. See www.doublebit.com but
ignore the suggestions to sign up to ZaptoIt as this isn't required for
UK.

Any good links on how to configure PTV to work with XMLTV for the UK?

Late following up to this, but it looks very promising. Thankyou, and
thanks to everyone else's suggestions as well.
