I just bought the 9500 128MB, before i had the 8500 64MB. You would think that that 9500 would be a great deal faster then the 8500 but in all the tests that i have ran their is almost no improvement. Were talking about less then 10 fps! Thats only when i run at a really high resolutions too (1280c930). So Basically i am trying to figure out wheather to keep the card or not. Are their any benchmark programs or demo programs, that will only run on dx 9 cards and not dx8 or below? Other wise their is no justification to keep the card.

You won't see too big of a difference, if you successfully mod your card to a 9500pro, then you'll see difference or just simply return your card and get a 9600pro and overclock it then you'll see difference. A good DX9 benchmark would be Aquamark3.

First the biggest area of difference is usually in things like AA/AF, and at resolutions above your current one. But scottchen is right, there won't be too much noticeable improvements without tweaks.

Here's a few good DX9 benchies/demos [that look good too]

<A HREF="http://www.daionet.gr.jp/~masa/" target="_new">http://www.daionet.gr.jp/~masa/</A> the rthdribl v.1.2 demo is VERY sweet.

<A HREF="http://download.guru3d.com/gunmetal/" target="_new">http://download.guru3d.com/gunmetal/</A> Gunmetal isn't truely a DX9 benchmark but does have some aspects of DX9 added ontop.

<A HREF="http://www.futuremark.com/products/3dmark03/" target="_new">http://www.futuremark.com/products/3dmark03/</A> 3Dmark03 of course.

<A HREF="http://www.shadermark.de/start.html" target="_new">http://www.shadermark.de/start.html</A> Shadermark ain't glitzy but it does have good info.

Hope that helps.

I would also recommend the R9600P as a better choice, even the R9600non-pro is better than the R9500non-pro IMO.

well thanks first off. I did mod my 9500 to a 9500 Pro. What card should I go with? The previous posters said the 9600 Pro. Thats much slower then the 9500 Pro which i could get one for under $200 and then mod to a 9700. even faster. What do you think?

If you successfully modded to the 9500pro then keep it it's really nice. 9500pro cannot be modded into the 9700. Stay with your 9500pro modded.

I'm temporarily using a 9500 Pro and the DX9 performance has been very pleasing. Unfortunately I don't feel that there are yet any DX9 games that are really pushing the envelope, and I have reached this conclusion only through Aquamark3 and 3DMark'03. I did try Call of Duty but to me it looks like Quake 3 with a little makeup. I think the benefit of 3DMark'03 is that it demonstrates your card's backbone in the most intensive situations (workloads that many DX9 games will never impose on the hardware). The Aquamark3 performance was outstanding. The 9500P still beats the 9600 Pro in a lot of tests because the two cards have very different ways of crunching the math. The 9500P achieves through its 8-pixel pipeline and massive transistor count (it basically is the 9700's upstart little brother), and the 9600P through its higher clock frequencies and slightly newer architecture. I think that in the coming year the strengths of both of these cards will show in games like HL2 and Doom 3, given players aren't trying to push 1600x1200.

There's Halo, Tomb Raider, heck there are a decent bunch of DX9 games. Halo is a messed up game, most high-end system has trouble handling it.
