Is there any difference running a r9600pro with 128MB ram or a 256MB version? I've seen a price for a PowerColor 9600pro w/ 256MB ram.

No difference expect the pain in your pocket. The 128MB version is more than adequate and performs exactly the same as the 256MB version.

ok, fine... but the price quoted to me gave the 256meg card approx. $30 less than the 128meg card. That's why I'm confused whether to pick up the 128megs or wait for the new stock of 256meg?

Fahr.

You didn't mention that in your original post.

I'd double check the specifications for each card - the 256MB card is typically a fair bit more expensive, so I suspect either a variety in specifications or a mistype on the price.

What brand was the 9600Pro with 128MB??...Powercolor cards tend to be cheaper quality than ATI or Sapphire cards, just remember, "YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR".

Actually, do not get the 256MB version. They have slower clocked RAM. The 128MB has RAM clocked at 300mhz but the 256MB has RAM clocked at 200mhz, which is as slow as a non-pro or an EZ version.

9600pro 256meg doesn't even use BGA memory, so screw that, 9600pro 128meg gets my vote, but avoid powercolor and gigacube. They make crappy cards.
