Thanks for all the solutions for the last problem, I finally decide not to buy PNY fx 5900 and wait for the R420 or NV 40. But I really want an upgrade now, from my geforce 2 mx 400. I have amd xp 2700+, pc2700 512mb ram kingston, Asus A7N8X, seagate ultra ata-100 120 gb, and a sound blaster audigy 2, should I get a 9000 pro or Ti 4200, and also in ti4200, should I choose the 64mb version?I have heard that they are really fast and can out perform the 128mb version.

Ti4200 is a better choice in my opinion, try to find 1 that uses BGA memory.

-Intel PIV 2.6C @ 3.575G -Asus P4P800 -OCZ Copper 2x256 4000EL memory @ 275mhz 3-4-4-8 -Sapphire 9800np @ 432/760 -SB audigy -120G Maxtor Diamond Plus9 S-ATA150 hdd -450 Enermax PSU

GF4ti is the better card. 128 mb not worth paying extra for if it's a temporary fix. IF it's only +$5 or less, then get it for any AA/AF or high res. stuff.

BGA = Ball Grid Array

Here's an <A HREF="http://www.amd.com/us-en/assets/content_type/white_papers_and_tech_docs/22247j.pdf" target="_new">AMD WhitePaper on BGA</A> probably a little more technical than you wanted.

TSOP = Thin Small Outline Package

The main thing is that the BGA packaged memory connects almost directly to the board whereas the the TSOP packaging of memory uses small traces to connect to the board. Despite most people's belief that it creates less resistance, that is almost a moot point as usually the traces on a PCB will have greater resistance themselves, the main thing is to maintain signal integrity and have less interference. This allows much higher speeds.

Basically think of it this way. BGA usually is faster than TSOP, and usually overclocks better (usually more expensive too).

- You need a licence to buy a gun, but they'll sell anyone a stamp <i>(or internet account)</i> ! <A HREF="http://www.redgreen.com" target="_new"><font color=green>RED</font color=green> <font color=red>GREEN</font color=red></A> GA to SK :evil:

The first 128MB Ti4200's that came out were memory clocked at 222MHz (444MHz DDR), compared to the 64MB ones that were at 250MHz (500MHz DDR).

The newer 128MB ones, designated 8X AGP, are memory clocked at 256MHz (512MHZ DDR).

The only thing to check is the speed of the ram itself, there are some cards with 3.6ns chips and some with 4.0ns chips. The 3.6ns ones would generally overclock better if you are into that sort of thing.

Why not a 9600/9600SE ... similar price but least vaguely reasonable DX9 performance & Ansio/FSAA (till U get a NV40/R420 that is...)

Trust me I know what I'm doing... ooops, grab the cat...

R9600 (non-PRO) is much slower than Ti4200. And R9600 "<b>S</b>tinky <b>E</b>dition" is at best barely enough for DX8 games without AA/AF, let alone DX9 games and AA/AF. 64 bit memory really hurts....

Thought some of the 9600/SEs had 128bit memory... fair enuf, 64bit is c**p... Ti4200 128mb (8x) is the better choice then...

Trust me I know what I'm doing... ooops, grab the cat...

*NEVER* get a SE anything unless you know it's a mighty fine piece of work, generally a SE is castrated version of the card that is utter crap but still works. I think the only exception I've seen to my SE rule is the TI-4800SE (which is a 8xAGP TI4200)... although compared to a TI-4600 it isn't to good.

Ti4800SE is Ti4400 + AGP 8x
