Ok, so a few days ago I got my sapphire 9800 nonpro. Great card. did some OCing and testing, its run great so far, definately has more headroom for me to explore as soon as i have time to OC more.

just one problem -- its not performing at all as well as i expected.

currently i'm at 380/326, and my 3dmark2k3 is only 13300 or so.. which is poor, and not much faster than i got with my ti4200!

<A HREF="http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k1=7216960" target="_new">http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k1=7216960</A>

i also ran a halo timedemo, with the following options:
"halo.exe" -timedemo -use20 -nosound -vidmode 1024,768,75

and the results of that are available at <A HREF="http://kiwiserv.kicks-ass.net/timedemo.txt" target="_new">http://kiwiserv.kicks-ass.net/timedemo.txt</A>

my relevant system specs are:

-sapphire radeon 9800 non pro @ 380/326
-P4 northwood 1.8A @ 2.4ghz (133 fsb)
-asus P4P800 i865PE w/ bios 1012
-2x 256mb cheap infineon ddr333, running at 133mhz 2-3-3-7 in dual channel

-winXP pro w/SP1
-catalyst 3.9 + rage3d tweak 3.9
-the latest intel inf update (chipset driver installer), downloaded today (dont remember version number, it was long  )
-DX 9.0b

FSAA and AF and such are disabled in drivers. I ran 3dmark with the mipmap/texture preferences set to high performance (although i think 3dmark actually ignores those and provides a single set of textures no matter what), and the halo bench with those set to quality (because halo image quality turns to [-peep-] if i set them to performance, so it wouldnt be a very useful bench result)

if anybody has any suggestions for what's dragging me down, i'd be very interested to hear. thanks in advance

You didn't remove the nvidia drivers, go to <A HREF="http://www.driverheaven.net" target="_new">driverheaven</A> and get the program called driver cleaner.

I had driver problems at first due to the nvidia drivers (even though i used detonator RIP), then i reformatted and reinstalled windows after a while due to that and other reasons, so i can safely say there are not nvidia drivers still on my system.

Maybe something went wrong with the OC...I have a similar system with a Ti4400 and a 2.66B (you essentially have a 2.4B, however) and PC1066RDRAM...and I get 13100. Try setting it to stock maybe. Also, try more benchies other than 3dmark2001se and halo timedemo (that will destroy any card), try 3dmark2003, aquamark3, etc (use Grape's benchies that he tested on his 9600Pro).

Damn Rambus.

Another possibility, what's your power supply?

enermax 430W psu

before i OCed, i tried 3dmark, i got like 12000 and something..

i'm not actually sure about ambient temp, i have one case fan in the back, stock cpu cooler, my cpu temp is about 41C at full load, northbridge about 40-42C at full load.. and my enermax has the dual fans as you probably know, so that helps with airflow too...

tomorrow i'll try aquamark and 3dmark 2k3 i suppose, although i'm still pretty sure something is wrong in general, because my halo timedemo should be better too, not just my 3dmark

With my BBA R9800NP at stock settings, I get @13,800 in 3DMark2001SE, and @4800 in 3DMark03.

I thought they were OK scores, but now I wonder...

Gee that's funny, since I have one.

Radeon 9800NP, built by ATI (BBA). Purchased at Circuit City.

Maybe it's just a figment of my imagination, and isn't really sitting in my AGP slot as we speak?

Very strange, every source i've ever read says that ATI does not make BBA non-pro cards, but if you've bought one...

Interesting indeed. i wonder if anyone have a link to verify the existance of lack thereof of such a thing?

or, back on topic, if anyone has any more ideas about my (our?) problem?

ATI doesn't make non-pro cards, i think it's probably a sapphire or something.

Hi, I must add to this topic. The other day while walking around Fry's Electronics I saw that they do in fact have BBA 9800 non-pro's for say. They are selling them for $300. Hope this helps.

I got mine for $250 at CC, but they went fast. I don't know if they have any more.
