I'm upgrading from a Geforce 2 Pro to go on my new P4 3Ghz system.

I don't want to spend to much, the high end cards are way to expensive, I was thinking GF4 buy according to the FAQ the FX cards should be left well alone.

My mate has a Radeon 9600 256mb but the FAQ says not to bother with 256mb and stick with 128mb, is this still the case?

The link below is the card I think I will get, its a Hercules - Radeon 9600 Pro 128MB DDR AGP DVI VO, is this a good card?

Thanks for any advice :)

great card, go and buy it. other brands to look at would be www.gecube.com.tw, His Exculiber and Powercolour. Dont pick Sapphire 9600 as they are the slowest 9600 performer

dont buy a 3ghz because they are overpriced and the performance difference between a 2.6 and 3.0 isnt much. 2.6 is also really really good for OCing, ask scottchan.

Don't shop at dabs, they aren't cheap. The best online retailers of components are(and i have tried and tested many over a long time to conclude this!)<A HREF="http://www.komplett.co.uk" target="_new">Komplett</A> or <A HREF="http://www.ebuyer.com" target="_new">Ebuyer</A>.I think <A HREF="http://www.komplett.co.uk/k/ki.asp?action=info&sku=117826&p=&t=278&l=2&AvdID=1&CatID=24&GrpID=1&cks=PRL" target="_new">this</A> is the card for you. This is the Fireblade Edition Sapphire 9600pro, which has a guaranteed (officially by sapphire) memory overclock to at least 325MHz because it has 2.8ns memory. At £122, you can't go wrong.

no matter how hard you try, you can't polish a turd. :]

Just saying ditto to A_R's statements. Be sure to try and get the 2.86ns memory like that in the Fireblade edition. They will all run stock, but the 2.86ns memory allows you to get better potential overclocks. If you aren't overclocking then go with the best deal you can find.
But the Fireblade edition seems like a great deal at that price (when I convert it to US or CDN$)

- You need a licence to buy a gun, but they'll sell anyone a stamp <i>(or internet account)</i> ! <A HREF="http://www.redgreen.com" target="_new"><font color=green>RED</font color=green> <font color=red>GREEN</font color=red></A> GA to SK

Thanks for the advice, at last I know what card to get!

I already have the 3Ghz CPU, they were £320 but dropped to £220 a couple of weeks ago just before I bought it, £100 price drop... well chuffed!! :)
