I got this error just before the login screen for Windows XP Home appeared.
It may not necessary be that you have contracted the Sasser virus - as so
many automatically assume. In my case it was nothing more than a corruption
in my local security authentication services.
I couldn't not log into windows nor start windows in any form of safe mode.
Hence none of the suggestions relating to the sasser worm was useable.
In my case, I stumbled accross article Q307545 in the Microsoft Knowledge
Base. I followed the stepps and managed to fix the problem. My Notebook is
now working without having to complete reinstall Windows.
