Can anyone advise on the following: removed all XP accidentally and then
added them back again but PC is not behaving normally. In this situation what
would be the best way to fix the problem? Use restore or repair from disk?
Maybe someone has had the same issue?

Cannot belive it let's you remove all the components so easy and with no
warning or confirm box!

Cheers.

Have you tried using System Restore to restore your computer to a point
before you removed the components?
I'm not sure if it would fix it, but it's worth a try.

I agree with Don Karma. First thing to try is System Restore. If
that does not resolve the issue then try a Repair Install as per the
instructions at http://michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm

Good luck
