Should I raise hell?

Recently the fan on my BFG Ti4200 128mb card went kaput. I find out that BFG has a lifetime warranty, so I send it to them. What I get in return, as far as I can tell, is a GF 5200 ultra 128mb. There is a sticker on the monitor plugin labeling it as such, and the layout of the card is similar to what I see posted on the net.

So do I need to make a federal case about this, or am I staring a gift horse in the mouth?

Regards..

personally I would call them and say "OI! NOOOOOOOO!" insist on another 4200 or an equivilent card (i "think" a 5600Ultra is about on par) dont accept any excuses, point them to all the various websites with benchmarks if they try to insist its a better card. be nice at first but if they dont play ball then give em hell!

You should do what ever is most logical. Obviously you deserve to get a card that is equivelant or better but most certainly not worse. So you can't simply say you don't think the 5200 is as good as the 4200. You need to present what facts that show them that you know why its not as good, if in fact you think it isn't. For instance I was faced with this very same sort of situation. I bought a Geforce 256 Pro (the first Geforce but with DDR instead of the typical Sdram), from Creative Labs and it had a 3 year warrenty. But 2 years after I owned it the fan stopped. They were going to give me a crappy replacment so I clearly pointed out that my card had 64mb of DDR (as oppose to the more common 32mb of Sdram at the time) and I would settle for nothing less. What they ended up giving me free of charge was a Geforce 2 GTS/Pro. Needless to say I got a free upgrade and a pretty nice upgrade at that.

Thank you sirs.

Shouldn't be a problem convincing them, since even their website shows the ti4200 beating the fx5200 in some areas.

edit: In the event they can't repair my fan and have to substitute a card, what would be an equal value?

should you raise hell....absolutely! I've heard of this type of ripoff quite a few times before, some companies even sent fx5200's or 5600's as replacements for gf4 ti4600's!!! I would demand for another ti4200 and send back that piece of [-peep-] fx as fast as possible. it is NOT as good as the ti4200 by any means, especially in dx8 stuff. Think of the fx5200 as a glorified gf4mx440 or somethin like that.
