windows xp theme does not work, why???????

when i try to change my theme from windows classic to xp the computer
freezes up on me. the sreen fades to a black and white and then just
freezes..... any suggestions ?

To repair all system files, go to Start/Run, and type (or paste in): SFC /SCANNOW (see: Description of Windows XP and Windows Server
