Hi there, today I got my laptop upgraded from 512 mb ddr ram to 1024 ddr ram. I thought that would make my games run smoother but it didnt work all that well. I mean it worked good, everything is definatly going faster and running a tad smoother. I have a Mobile GeForce 4 4200 Go card in my laptop, not all to sure of the mbs tho. I am wondering what I can do to have it on the best graphics possible and still haveit run smooth, and solutions other than buying a better card and installing it? Thanks fo your time!

I would've agreed with you about a month ago, but have you seen the new offerings from Alienware. They have mobile R9600Pro that can be upgraded later. That's right UPGRADEABLE GRAPHICS CARD IN A NOTEBOOK. Obviously not as powerful as their desktop counterparts, but definately good enough to handle HL2 and Doom 3 when they finally release.
Check it out... http://www.alienware.com/system_pages/area-51m.aspx

As for you h00minshield, there isn't really anything left to upgrade seeing as it is a laptop, just tweaking the settings is about all. Someone might know this, I don't, but maybe it's possible to OC your card?
Also, what makes you think you can replace the card?

well i just thought i would be able to, thats all. I bought this thing for gaming and school work, it isnt bad at all at either one. I play Warcraft 3, need for speed underground, LOTR:war of the rings, gta vice city, the sims, counter strike, and lords of everquest. All work fine and dandy on my laptop, max graphics. I wish that there was a way to make this better for more demanding games like Star wars galaxies and Final Fantasy 11. Do you think that my beefy laptop will handle ff 11?

i dont consider alienware's notebooks as notebook, i look at them as.

"MOBILE DESKTOP"
MOBILE DESKTOP =/= notebooks

it fat, it's bulky, it's hot, it's not portable, to me, it's just a desktop that got thinner.

Anyways that's my 2.6 cents

LOL! Point well taken. Great for LAN gaming though! I heard somewhere that most have a max battery time of about two hours!!! and even less while gaming.

i disagree, there arent too many LAN's I wouldnt rather just take my Desktop to. Again a notebook is a notebook.

taking my pc to a lan isnt a problem, the only part i hate is moving my stupid monitor. if i had a flat panel that would be awsome.
