Radeon 9500 HELP

my 9500 worked fine for quite a while. i cant remember when but after a while on games (and sometimes in windows) i now get artifacts (checkerboard stuff all over the screen) I HAVE NOT done the Softmod as i know some of you will suggest could be the problem and i have tried rolling back the drivers to no avail. is it likely to be cooling as the card just has a fan and no heatsink on it? i can play old games for about 45 minutes before anything happens but directx9 games (max payne 2, CoD) tend to go MUCH quicker.

Any help would be appreciated as to how to sort this out, thanks

your monitor might be at fault to: such as you vga cable is worn inside. pins might be bent; try wigglin the cable to see if you get a difference.

also do you have the vid card overclocked??

if you do set it at stock speeds and if yo must overclock it step up until you get artifacts and back it down so you wont have them. Hopefully this will help.

Checkerboarding on ATi cards is caused by either memory overheating, or memory clocked beyond it's threshold.

If you are convinced it is a heat issue, you could look at installing an aftermarket heatsink and fan combo...there are some really good ones out there.

but directx9 games (max payne 2, CoD) tend to go MUCH quicker

Neither of those games are DX9. They might require DX9 to play, but Max Payne2 is DX8.1 and CoD is DX7

TRy running it with the side of your computer case off, maybe point a fan at it. If it works, your system cooling is insufficient.

Put more fans in it.

thanks for the help, its not monitor ive tried a different one. overheating memory of the computer or of the card itself? also i ran it with side off still happened. COD and maxpayne ... wow they aint directx9... that makes it worse as maxpayne 2 goes after about 20 seconds and COD after about 20 minutes. *worrying*

The problem is caused by an overheating card, but alot of overheating cards are caused by poor case ventilation.

Either way, if you take off the side of the case and blow a fan on the guts of the PC, it should help you diagnose wether it's an overheating problem or not.

it most certainly is overheatin i ran it with case off for about an hour before tryint a game and same thing happened. im in UK so an offer on ur HS/FAN for g-card wood be silly due to shipping costs. ill have to grab one fromt hat website i guess

well incase u guys remember i baught a new cooler... i went for the arctic silent cooler... very nice no probs installing however same issue is still happening... im starting to think maybe my card is nackered? my agp slot is nackered? my psu is 550W so it wont be that i hope as its almost new... im gettin a bit fed up of this whole thing so if anyone thinks they can sort it out and want a new computer my spec is:
Gigabyte GA7N400-L1 Motherboard
512MB DDR 2700
Radeon 9500 128mb (non pro) (normal cooler -- i be keepin the new cooler)
AMD AthlonXP 2400+ with Thermaltake 11+ cooler and fan with ducting Mod
550W PSU
Black case with side window
Blue neon tube
CDRW 52x24x52
DVD 16X
HDD = 60gb + 80gb but i cant format them for some reason (any help there too pls) however if u dont want them as i cant format them ill take money off for ya
Blue + Yellow rounded IDE cables

Issue with g-card as mentioned above... any offers welcome

okies no worries everyone i changed motherboard from Gigabyte - MSI (my old one b4 pointless changeover) and g-card works fine again. must be motherboard issue with 9500 or crappy AGP slot sumat silly like that.
