Installation terminates, says Fatal Error

In event log I repeatedly find ID 7023
The Application Management service terminated with the following error:
The specified module could not be found.
The initial problem began with Office 2003 trial. I have XP home sp2. I have
a lengthy discription. However the (available?) hotfix may resolve it.
I was passed off on the phone as soon as I said trial.

....should have said "Just the fix, mam, just the fix"
