Urgent help please, format gone wrong

Hi there,
to put it simply, i reformatted my PC, booted with a USB flash drive with Windows 7 Ultimate x64
Went through the setup windows, to where i wanted to install Windows on a selected drive, chose the correct HDD i wanted to install on, as i have 3 internal HDD's *** I have done this before without a problem
It formatted and proceeded with the installation, it then rebooted at which i knew it would, i then took out the USB drive so it wont boot off it again, and loop the installation procedure.
It then loaded the Windows 7 partition and continued the setup, once completed it restarted and loaded into Windows 7... Great news
BUT.
When i open My Computer and see my other HDD's the one has also been formatted, how could this happen?
im deeply frustrated and upset, as this had years of backup's and my music collection.
Has this happened to anyone?
What can i do, to get this lost info back
would a recovery, get all back?
any reputable Recovery programs you guys used to get 95% data back successfully?

Sorry to say but hindsight is 20 20 word to the wise if you are doing any kind of installation UNPLUG any hds that are not involved in the process. You can always plug them back in after and your os will recognize them and let you access the data. But if you leave them in the loop you run the risk of a wipeout of years worth of accumulated data. I speak from experience. I would recommend either Acronis disk manager which in some cases will allow you to recover partitions or Paragon system backup which takes snapshots of your whole computer including the boot
sectors then allows you to make a recovery disk which even if your computer wont boot will allow you access to your data. This gives you a chance to replace the damaged os with a snapshot of the operating system when it was in a viable state. Sorry for your loss . But lioke the boy scouts say BE PREPARED>
