Over-overclocking my Radeon9600p?

Hi, I have a GigaCube (considered bad/cheap manufacturer) Radeon 9600 Pro, I downloaded the Omega drivers and started OCing, checking with the program that came with the drivers every few MHZs. Every time the test returned no errors until one time the card crashed and the program closed, a bit lower and everything was OK. Now I'm at 445/674 and I'm scared I'm giving my card long-term damage, but other than that, every game I play is stable and I see no visible artifacts. Another thing weird I noticed bundles with the driver was a program meant to detect artifacts, every time a right-clicked somewhere and a menu popped-up on the window, the program displayed a message that it has detected artifacts, this happened every time, even at stock speed.

Is 2^33634943-1 prime? (more than 10Mil digits @90.79%) I will know in 3 days when Prime95 finishes checking!

i used the artifact tester 5.0 (came with the omega radeon newest driver, same as yours) and i oced it to 420/680mhz... (mine is a powercolour one also considered lousy but i got the bravo edition and it came with 2.8 memory =D + the memory was default at 680mhz)
im experiencing the same problem as u but not to worry.

When u want to test for artifacts, do not move or run any other programs other than the test itself... or else artifacts will be falsely detected...

btw wad memory are u using? samsung?
Edited by BirdRobin on 12/15/03 11:30 AM.

Try running something like 3Dmk'01 or '03.

Artifacts should be visible in some of the tests (especially Wings of Fury in '03 for me [above 375 {on 2.86ns Samsung} started seeing 'blackflies'].

Running that 3.3ns memory at 337mhz seems well beyond expected stable range. Just air cooling, no ramsinks?

I'm surprised you got as high as you did without frying it.

I wouldnt run that cards memory over 315mhz...bump it up maybe for an occasional benchmarking fringe, but for the long term, keep it at 315mhz.

I had that problem with 3DMark2001SE once....my memory timings were the cause. Kept crashing to the desktop only seconds into a benchmark run.

Actually try disabling Fastwrites. Read my post, every run for me with 3Dmk03 ran part way into CPU test 1 and then crashed.

Disabled Fastwrites and then no problem. Also appeared as random crashes and lock-ups in other apps (from Mozilla to Morrowind).

Just a thought.

Here's the segment from the CAT review;

I noticed a specific issue (one of two, the other is the DNR) while doing my first run of benchies. 3Dmk03 kept crashing for me during CPU test 1, and always about 10-15 seconds into the scene. I tried a whole bunch of things, including changing FSB, letting the system cool down for 30 mins, cleaning the heatsinks with air, etc. Finally I decided to disable fast writes, which I thought had been fixed by not going with the Omega drivers. Well it appears there's still an issue. Disabled Fastwrites, and then the problem disappeared
