Greetings all!

Sorry if this seems like a real newbie question, but I have a question
about updating my Santa Cruz driver.

I have a Dell 8200 series computer (running XP) that came bundled with
a Turtle Beach soundcard. When I got the computer two or three years
ago, I recall there being some problems associated with the driver/card
-- something along the lines of not loading drivers from the disk they
gave me, but instead downloading them online. I apologize for having
only dim memories of this.

I have recently had some sound trouble with a game I am playing, and
the tech help associated with the game told me that my Santa Cruz
Turtle Beach sound driver was "extremely out of date." So I went to
the Santa Cruz Turtle Beach site to get an updated driver, and there
was a message informing me that:

"All Technical Support questions regarding the soundcard and software
applications must be forwarded to Dell Technical Support. The support
pages at this site are ONLY for the RETAIL version of the Turtle Beach
card."

No offense to the fine people at Dell, but I estimate my chances of
getting useful info from them on this point to be pretty close to nil.
So I thought I'd inquire in this venue. The version of the driver that
I have now is 5.12.1.4112. How should I update my OEM Dell version of
this driver? Do I get something direct from Dell's site?

I am fairly nervous about updating this driver because of the whole
"OEM Dell" aspect of this paradigm. Any help is VERY much appreciated!
Thanks,

Chuck

The most recent drivers for the Turtle Beach Santa Cruz (5.12.1.4161)
available for download from Dell are @

http://support.dell.com/support/do [...] 1&devlib=3

(same link) http://tinyurl.com/4cxsp

For future reference for downloads available for a specific Dell computer
start here
http://support.dell.com/support/do [...] l=en&s=dhs
and enter the Service tag for your computer.

As far as getting something more recent from the manufacturer I have not had
occasion to update the audio drivers on my 8200 but, I have updated the
video drivers from NVidia instead of Dell several times without problems. If
it were myself I'd try the Dell driver. If that doesn't resolve the issue
you're experiencing then try Turtle Beach's most recent. (you can always
roll it back)

I just used the drivers on Turtle Beach's site and ignored the warning.
Worked fine.
