they got no competition from nvidia, I just got my 9600xt and I'm amazed at how much difference there is from my nvidia geforce 4 MX 440 on direct 8 games. I got wizardry 8, and when I used the map with my nvidia card it took literally several minutes for my system to just draw the map, which now it does as soon as I hit the button. oh my!!!

As fast as the situation turned for the better for ATI, the situation can again turn as fast back for the better for nvidia... especially since there are new generation graphiccards coming out next year.

But I have to say that I love the current market situation with the two strong contenders and one uncertain following soon... it couldn't be better except that the fan wars will unfortunately still go on...

Do you know that you are comparing DX7 tech hardware with the latest and greatest DX9 hardware?

The GF4 MX is a extrem low-budget graphiccard with a GF2 core inside, just FYI

You're comparing a current generation mid-range video card to a previous generation low end budget card. This shocks you? If you had upgraded to a 5700 Ultra you would have seen a similar increase.

If you go up into the performance end of the graphics cards you'd see another increase as well. You can't compare apples and oranges and be shocked at the differences in color.

Mind you saying that, anyone tried playing Halo on a GF2?
It runs soooo smooth!
The terrible performance only seems to kick in when Pixel Shading kicks in on newer cards.
Mind you the graphics are arse. No shadows/facial animation/horrible textures/no bumpmaps/no pretty explosions/no advanced effects (invisibility).

But you do get 100fps!!!

If you got a GF 5900 Ultra you would have seen an even bigger increase FYI. Or even better 9800Pro.
Or even better smear vaseline across your monitor for added motion blur/full screen anti aliasing x20.

Mx440 to 9600xt indeed. Pah!

I might go visit ATI while I'm here in Toronto (ATI's actually in Thornhill at the Buttonville Airport on HWY 7). I'll try and take some digital pictures (not that that will be new to any of you who follow Rage3D).
