Do all usb cables work in a laptops

i have a webcam but the usb cord does not fit. what could be the problem?

Are you sure the webcam is USB and you're pluging it in a USB port? eSata looks a bit like USB sometimes and the combo USB+eSata port can be hard to get right. Are you plugging it the right way? Try flipping the cord over and trying again.
