WIN98SE Boot problem

Help when win98 starts a MS_DOS window opens. With the error message C:\Explorer EXE' is not a valid MS-DOS program file it may be damaged. If I shut this down windows will not load. Tried reinstalling windows but did not help. Checked both config.sys and autoexe.bat found nothing new there.

Can you boot to safe mode at all?
Explorer.exe should not be in the root c: directory.
Somewhere that file is being loaded. Double check the autoexec and config.sys files and make sure its not in there.
Also might try renameing it to explorer.bak from dos and see if it helps.
If all else fails my only option would be to do a fresh install on a clean hard drive. But thats a last resort.
