Hello,
I have a WG 4900 that is giving me problems. It is installed in a
qbert cabinet. When I fire it up, it has some of the images doubled.
Most noticable is the words. For example, it will say "q*bert" and the
same lettering will appear just slightly below off to the side. Where
it says number of men left, it is in blue, then green & then red. It
is not a pcb problem since I have a known good tested working board
(tested in my other cab) I did a cap kit and it is still the same. Any
ideas??

Troy,
First degauss the screen externally. If you don't have a degauser
ring, get your hands on a old school trigger operated soldering GUN.
squeeze the trigger, and holding it sideways (point AWAY from the
facia) wave it about the screen. It is a really ghetto degauser, but it
does WORK.
Next step if it's not gone is to try moving the cabinet to see if it
changes the effect your getting. Nearby EMF may be causing this, or
hell even the earths magnetic field has ben known to do it.
One you eliminate all these possibles you are faced with the last
resort. It is actually my first suspect, but the last thing anyone
wants to try. Get the manual or google "adjusting convergence" and
start readjusting the purity/convergence rings on the neck. Good luck,
and I hope you have some hair left when your done.

Picture of the issue would be good, but Convergence sounds right..
Look at the convergence rings and see if the sealer glue that locks them in
place has been broken. If so then someone has been screwing witht he rings,
or you bumped it out of place. Sometimes you can eyeball to line the glue
marks back up. If the glue is solid and intact I wouldn't screw with the
rings, they are sooo difficult to re align manually. Unless someone else
knows any good tips to do it.

Hey Guys,
As I was typing this tech question, I was thinking convergance but
hoped it was something else. I got the game as a nonworking project
and had hoped it would be an easy fix. I did try degaussing it before
my previous post with no luck. To make a long story short, after about
15 minutes of tinkering with the rings...all better! Once I figured
out what ring did what, no problem. They were moved quite a bit and
there was no glue or glue marks on the rigs at all. Go figure....
Thanks for your help, it was greatly appreciated!

Hi Guys,
Thanks for the replies. I was thinking convergance while I was
writing this tech question but hoped it was somehting else. I did
degauss is before the cap kit, no change. I checked out the rings and
there was no glue or anything on them. I started movign them around
and figured out what ring did what. After about 15 min of tinkering I
have great picture. They were moved quite a bit from where they were
suppposed to be. I put a little hot glue on them to hold them in
place. Thanks for your help!

If you have it set properly, I would suggest you run a bead of contact
cement on the rings to lock them in place now.
