Hi guys, i believe that alot of pple here owns a R9600pro, and i have a few questions about overclocking.

Will overclocking at this speed (400mhz/680ddr to 480mhz/680ddr) greatly shorten the lifespan of my card? (its a Powercolour R9600pro Bravo Ed, the memory is default at 680ddr)
When i ran my card at 480/680 for marathon sessions, and shut down the com, touched the VPU heatsink, its only warm... Now i know that the R9600pro doesnt heat up so much, is my cooling solution adequate?
Wad speeds do u guys out there normally overclock to?

Who is from singapore? I am.

Overclocking will reduce lifespan, yes. But modern procs are designed to last for about 10 years of continuous activity so you prolley will have a new video card by then. The difference might be 7 years vs 11 years.

Of course, it will void your warrentee...

ok i'll pump to 500mhz...

haha ok i know which one. (to Woodman)

Athlon XP 1700+ (1.47ghz)
Gigabyte GA-7VKML
Powercolour R9600pro Bravo (400/340 @ 480/340)

IBM 20gb 5400rpm 2mb+WD 40gb 5400rpm 2mb
Creative SB Live! 5.1 Digital

BR, I'm able to run my R9600Pro stable @ 535/363 for hours and hours on end. But I do usually run it @ 456/321 just to ensure longevity (I will likely be giving/selling it to a friend if I don't fry it at the end of it's lifespan for me [replaced by R42X or RV380 asap]).

I wouldn't go straight to 365 on the memory as many people barely break 350 even with 2.86ns Samsung. Go slow on the memory (much easier to damage IMO), but the core running @ 500+mhz should be easy.

<A HREF="http://arc.aquamark3.com/arc/arc_view.php?run=1145865560" target="_new">Here's a recent A3 run with my card</A>.

However like I said I like to keep it a little lower for day to day use (either 456/321 or 432/318 as arbitrary levels).

It all depends how lucky you are.

Good thermal paste (like AC3), lapping the heatsink, and a good quality heatsink will help. So will good case ventilation. And not overclocking to the max you can without artifacts is also a good idea.

But in the end, no matter what you do, it might last 7 years or it might die tomorrow.
It's always a risk, but the smart fellas minimize that risk by eliminating heat...

Thanks for the quick response. I have dl'ed and installed and seems to be a very nice interface with little overhead.

Now I am waiting on my H2O system so I can see what my whole system can really do. This software should help.

Thanks.
