Yep...you heard it right. I'm ditching the XTASY 9500 Pro and going for a purchase of a GeForce4 TI 4200. I realized that I'm not playing any DX9 games at all...I mostly just mess with my linux box and play UTGOTYE and a buncha other DX8 games and that I can sell the 9500 pro and make about 30 bucks if I buy a TI 4200...the question is:

What is the best brand of GF4 Ti 4200 that I can buy?

My options are:

Abit Siluro
BFG Assylum
Jaton
Microstar
Chaintech

Or should I break down and buy a 4600 or 4800? If so, which brand there is a good one? Any recommendations are welcome as I had a GF2 GTS I used through the GF4 craze...hence I don't know the best brand to buy.

This doesn't make sense. Who would go from a 9500 Pro to a ti4200??

That's stupid.

I'll trade you my Ti4400 for your 9500Pro.

Just a thought.

EDIT: And I'll send you a twenty dollar bill (USD).

Just helpin out my buddy...He plays more games than I do...the most intense game I play currently is UT so it makes sense to help out a buddy in need I can just buy an older card and allow him to upgrade. In a couple of years, I'll go for the big upgrade.

Ok...update...

I've decided to get the best GF card for sub 200 bucks I can get. So...this being the case...who is the best vendor for say...an FX 5700 Ultra? or whatever card those reading this may recommend?

Update again:

Here's the best prices I've found:

MSI GF4 Ti 4600 - $144
Leadtek GF4 Ti 4400 - $115
MSI GF4 Ti 4400 - $116
Asus GF4 Ti 4200 - $136
PNY 5700 Ultra - $174

I threw the PNY 5700 Ultra in there because its the price for a new one AND I wanted to know if anyone else besides Spitfire (in the buyers guide) thinks that PNY is a good Nvidia vendor. I've heard nothing but crap about them...but that's just me. Any input on the PNY and any recommendations between the Ti series are welcome.

Ti 4200 and OVERCLOCK
i'd actually get the leadtek in this situation tho, real nice overclocking heatsink on it, plus it's the cheapest, plus if it doesn't OC well, you're still better off with a 4400 than a 4200

and for the 5700U...WHAT ARE YOU THINKING GOING FROM A 9500P TO A 5700U??
hmm let's downgrade and lose money in the process

as for PNY the company, i used to have a 4400 made by them and was real happy with it and its oc-ability

Picked up the Leadtek Ti 4400 today. I ordered it from Axion Technologies and will let you know how things turn out. Thanks for the suggestions...I was leaning toward the 4400 anyways :p

Thats hardly a downgrade. The 5700 Ultra can beat the 9500 Pro in the majority of games that I've seen.

Alot of people would see it as a downgrade, and depending on the use I would tend to agree. If anything it's parity.

Check the VGA charts just as a quick example.

Halo goes to the R9500P, Nascar, C&C (old game admitedly).
Older games like Q3, UT2K3, and the G3 based COD (yes it's new but an old engine) go to the FX5700U. WIII is close with the win going to the FX5700U.

BF1942 is a tie.

But turn on AA+AF and the R9500 saunters away from the FX5700U.

The newer titles would tend to play to the R9500Pro's strengths IMO.

At a loss of money it wouldn't make much sense to me. For a bit of coin in my pocket, heck I'd swap my R9600P for an FX5700U just to give it a test run 'til the new stuff was availible.

But it is a preference thing I guess.

Nah it's more of a new versus old thing in my opinion. Realistically it depends on what games you imagine yourself playing more of between now and YOUR refresh. If you mostly play games that favour one or the other, then chose that one. That's what it's all about. Who cares if everyone says X, Y and Z plus a ton of other titles plays better on card A instead of card B if the only game you play is Q and it plays well on both or better on yours with more features too?
PErsonally if it wasn't for the high initial cost I WOULD be running a Parhelia in my gming rig, because the MOST important game to me is Morrwind, and it plays about the same on the Parhelia, and has the advanatage of Surround Gaming (unlike all others). Sure I'm interested in other games but surround gaming may help me learn to appreciate lower res. at medium frame rates. It's still a matter of choice. Everyone could be against your choice but as long as it fits YOUR needs and expectations then who cares if it's not number one. That's why I do like the R9600Pro so much. It's exceeded my expectations and was significantly cheaper than the Parhelia. However when I do buy something new this Q1/2 I wish it were a Parhelia that I was replacing, becuase it would be the perfect thing for my video/phot-editing rig.

BTW.... LONG LIVE MATROX!

9600 Pros (refurbed) were at newegg last week for 100 American.
I was going to order one but I've been dealing with gameve on my RMA and got all kinds of different answers on whether or not I was getting my money back (which I eventually asked for), then I got a new card from them today... bastards.
Oh they sent me a cool Nvidia/Leadtek t-shirt, i think im going to go get laid.
Actually when I go brain shrinking at the bar I have worn it.
I have no shame, and it lets the anti-NV crowd know we mean business.

100 bucks makes for a cheap ass 9600pro, esp coming from newegg.
im happy again with my gf4, i dont care about anything as long as my games work and im off the gf2mx tit.

Though its hard to pull me away from one of those for any reason.

I just tell it like it is and some can't handle it. If your experience is different, well congratu-fukulation.

Its a little tight around the legs but I managed to get my big ass into it.

New Year, New Sig.

Im tired of being sick, mustve gotten SARS from the chinese buffet across the street or somethin.
They must be working to gameve.com to kill me eventually so they dont have to service my video cards.

Yeah, thats right. I support the NV/AMD/IBM axis of evil.
