I recently upgraded my geforce 2 mx 100/200 to a Radeon 9600 pro, ever since I have had little driver probs that are just annoying. First, Empires: Dawn of the modern world didnt work right, and ever since I upgraded madden 2004 online doesnt work to full functionality. Are ATI drivers really that far behind Nvidia? Or do I have bad luck?

Due to buying a new motherboard, I reformatted/reinstalled my OS about a week ago, I now have about 24 games/demos installed, and my Radeon plays them all without a hiccup. There are a couple of games that ATi has known trouble with(Counterstrike, Call of Duty) but the troubles your having arent the fault of your card. I have owned a Radeon 9000Pro, 8500LE, 9500Pro, 9600XT, and now I have a 9800....so I know a little

I used driver cleaner, my sys specs are 2 ghz willemete core p4, 512 mb sdram (I know), 80 gb hard drive, some ASUS motherboard, like P4B or something. Its an HP computer. The graphics work fine, and in most of my games it works fine, its just in Madden, I cant message people online because of what looks to be a graphical error, it hampers the online experience and it started occuring when I upgraded to the 9600 pro. I will be getting a new computer here soon once all the processor releases shake out, so I wont reformat now.

How sad is that solution wusy? I am having second thoughts about getting a 9800XT based on posts like these and my own past experiences. Yes, I will be installing it on a new mobo and OS if I get it in a few months... I already own call of duty so whatever the driver problems are with that game I hope they are fixed soon, but based on ATI's passed record of driver updates this may never happen. Even suggested reinstallation of an OS to someone who may have configured their OS to perfection over years of usage, like mine for example, is rediculus. One of the differences between ATI and Nvidia still seems to be that Nvidia works out of the box almost perfectly while ATI requires extreme solutions to get them running not so perfectly. LOL

Balls, said the Queen if I had them I would be king!

That's weird. Since I've owned my 9600XT I've swapped it out with my Matrox G550 card about 4-6 times comparing the two for image quality. I've ran games with the ATI, never any problem. In my experience, nvidia drivers require going into the registry and deleting some keys that their uninstaller happens to miss. I suspect this is the case.

Weirdo, i played all the latest games(CoD/Star Wars etc...) on my 9500 pro with cat 3.6 without any problem. In fact i didn't even know those so call critical bugs that affect radeon cards with latest game until i visit forums.

Also nvidia's card may work near perfect out of box but you know how slow your game is gonna run?

You probably got the same glitch I had. If the complete removal of drivers are no go then you will have to reinstall windows. This kind of thing happens when you go from Nvidia to ATI...

The 9000Pro I burned was actually not my fault, it was new, I plugged it in, and something on it started glowing. It was made by Gigabyte(it was my first Radeon, I returned it and bought the 8500LE) As for the 9600XT, I had just bought it, and that evening saw the Circuit City R9800 for $199 dollars, so I returned the 9600XT. The day before I bought the 9600XT, I had an eVGA5700 Ultra...I overclocked the memory too far and saw permanent rainbows. I guess some things just arent meant to be
Did you get any new equipment for christmas Nights?

I think you'll find that the problem is with the nVidia drivers not uninstalling correctly and thus [-peep-] up the new ATi card. I do believe that's nVidia's fault.

Ok, thanks. That was one of the risks I knew with buying an ATI card, is there any way to remove them now? I used driver cleaner.
