Recently, I upgraded all the computers at my wife's place of business from 95 to 98 (don't ask). Now, some of the gals are saying that Solitaire (GeneralProtectionFaults) no longer works; which they enjoy playing during down time.
I figure this can't be too tough to solve. So I try all of the following: (1)Remove program and reinstall; (2)Disable USB in the BIOS; (3)Increase memory from 64 to 192; (4)Swap out memory for known good. Nothing helped.
So I turn to this fine forum for help because one of those unhappy gals is my wife, who now thinks I'm a useless idiot.

A couple of comments:

Was this an actual upgrade, or fresh installations of the OS? Upgrading can sometimes cause unexpected problems ... fresh installations, especially in the workplace, are always the best option.

Are the computers on a network? If so, perhaps the admin disabled the Windows games.

These articles address a couple of possibilities:

Small office. Six unit, peer-to-peer. All Dell Dimensions. I upgraded each machine separately. No glitches with any of the upgrades. Went smoothly. Very routine. No Admin. Games are still alive.

Thanks for helping Toey. I will investigate those articles later today.

Good tip, Toe, on the second KB article. The culprit was Intellipoint 4.0. There is a memory conflict between it and sol.exe. I performed an uninstall, and installed 3.1 in its place. Newer and improved is not necessarily better. Intellipoint 3.1 gives the gals the same as what they wanted from 4.0, and allows them to resume their Solitaire moments. All things are good in this world.
