For things such as Photoshop,Auto-CAD,Graphics design etc... A PC can't touch a MAC, they rule. But if you want to play games?? PC rules. and yes a 533 mac is faster at Photoshop tha a 1 gig Tbird.
Not only that, but you can't really upgrade or tweak your Mac. I use them at work. They are great for video editing type stuff. But for home use, or if you want to upgrade, or if you are just into tweaking, or if you really like games, get a PC.
And what really sucks, Mac and Apple are in bed together so they set the price and since there is no competition, they have you by the balls.
They are the same company. Macintosh is a product of Apple.
Nonetheless, Apple and Microsoft and Motorola and all the rest are in bed together. I'm sure that once Intel figures out a way AMD will be in bed too. Does Microsoft have any influence on Intel or AMD?
All these companies try to come up with the best way to survive, and that often includes selling shares and buying shares from competitors. Apple didn't have a choice...
Sucks...

"We did a ton of testing the last two weeks while we were putting the demo together. The 733 G4 was not as fast as my 1 ghz PIII in any of the trouble areas. Apple is doing a lot of good work, but the CPU's just aren't as fast as the x86 ones."

I'd love to get a G4 and put linux on it. Just mess around a bit and see what it can do. But I don't have the cash for it... I do accept donations though...
There's nothing really different about linux on a mac comapred to x86. Although I find it interesting configuring linux for different archtectures. I would stick to x86s for everyday use because most of the programs have optimizations for x86. Although u can probably get x86 emulators for mac or other cpus, but still, I think x86 is the way to go.
If you want to play around with macs, buy some olders ones to play around with I think my buddy might have a SE/30 that you can have for cheap
The thing about macs is that they are all scuzzy devices, and they have (arguably) the best processors on the market, the motorola cpu is very good, and you dont buy upgrades for the os a la Ms Win 98,98 SE, Millenuim ect, they come ready to use "out of the box" and have the most fanatical followers of anybody, you think the AMD fans are passionate, they have nothing on mac users
Good point, their i/o has always been good (scsi, firewire, usb) That is probably why they were so much more expensive back in the day. Now they are at least comprable.
