Hello

Right now im running a AMD 2600 (1919) with 512 Megs DDR PC3200 and a Geforce 5200.

the only games I play run like crap
need for speed underground
Return to Castle Wolfenstein
and such
Older stuff runs cool but I want more
Should I get another 512 Megs or a Geforce 5700 ultra

3Dmark 2001 SE score 6642
cant even finish 3Dmark03

Thank you

Definetly graphics. If you had a midrange card and 256mb of system ram it might be iffy but with a 5200 it's not, graphics will definetly give you a bigger boost.

Another vote for Graphics card. 512mb is well above the minimum for most games, and while 1gig is nice, it's far from 'needed' to run smooth. However a better graphics card would make a huge difference compared to that anemic FX5200.

My Recommendation for your price range in order of bext to not so best;

FX5900SE/XT/LX/etc.

R9600XT

FX5700U

R9600Pro

now if you can get one within your price range (my take a little owrk on your part) I would add (in order again);

R9800

FX5900

R9700Pro/R9700.

Just my two frames worth.

MMmm I see... I'll check out the Geforce 5700 Ultra. My friend has a 5950 in a celeron 1.2 with 1 gig ddr PC 2100 and it's a ass kicker. I wish I had the money for that.

Thanks again

More ram. The games are using more than the available physical memory, thus forcing the reset to the swap file on your hard driver which is significantly much slower than the ram.

Getting a better graphics card will help the benchmarck scores.

quit talkin trash about my video card :(...ah well, i need to upgrade my mobo so i can use agp 8x instead of 4x. I got my card at staples for 100 bucks...too bad i didn't find out about paypal until 3 days ago...i'm just past the 14 day no-questions-asked return, and i'm sure staples would be dicks and not except it if i tried

My Rig:
AthlonXP 2000+ 1.677ghz
GeForce Verto FX5200 128mb ddr
Maxtor 7200RPM 80GB, Some POS 40gb
384mb sdram(unknown)
Cendyne 52x24x52 CD-RW
Lite-On 4x DVD-RW
Go EMachines...:(

8X versus 4X will make no difference for that card, heck I doubt 2X versus 4X would make much of a difference. And even a newer card (FX5600/5700) running on 4X would be the same as 8X.
