The files I am referring to WERE created with Turbo Tax.
My problem is that when I right click on one of these files and get the
"Open With" dialog box, TurboTax is NOT one of the programs available in
the list. When I browse and select the TurboTax program it still does
not appear in the list of programs to open the files I have been wanting
to change associations for.

Sir:
This makes eminent sense; but, alas, I am a relative novice. Please
tell me how I get TurboTax to appear in this registry?

If Turbo Tax is not on the 'list', click on the Browse button and look
in the Program Files folder for Turbo Tax and select the .exe file to
use to open the file. Click the always use this program button to
permanently associate the items.

Thanks, I tried your recomendation and TurboTax still does not become
available, even using this method!
I think Ramesh, above, has it correct; I believe TurboTax'04 lost its
registration in Windows XP when I uninstalled TurboTax'03 (which was
resident on the machine at the same time as the '04 version).
