Hi, I'm not too sure if this question was around before. ( i hope this kind of question is not banned)
Anyways, I'm in NY Manhattan, and I'm wondering what ISPs people here use most for broadband?
I can only get cable here now, DSL will be here in a few months.
As for what is better, that all depends on the ISP (what their setup is like).
Cable - You share your connection with your neighbours. When they are not all online, your connection is faster compaired to when they are all on.
xDSL - You have your oun line. They say you do not get slow downs durring peek times. I don't beleive this as all the xDSL users still share the ISP's connection to the net.
With my connection I get up to 3.0 meg/sec. At peek times I get as low as 450 k/sec. Big diff, but still WAY faster then 56k dialup !
Go here for a better explaination of the diff between the two. http:// bandwidthplace.com/tech/
Good luck,

check out www.dslreports.com (i dont know how to add a hyperlink). i have att broadband in mass. email has gone down 3 times in two months, but other than that its been pretty good. i heard nothing but horror stories about verison.
....the birds seemed to be calling him, thought caw....
I have At&t broadband and it's pretty good - once they got that @home snafu figured out. I love it. My neighbors must not being using too much bandwidth, cause my connection beats a T1 line.
I setup my folks with a DSL network via Earthlink. Once I got it going, the service is great. Just don't expect them to help you with your network woes - unless you buy their $150 router plus $10-15/mo. networking fee. They only support what they sell - and won't help you out with the common routers out there.
