Does anyone know what the best video card is for 2D work?
I always see all these reviews for 3D, but I’m more concerned with a card that runs well dealing with huge, several hundred MB images in Photoshop and large video projects. I run my monitor (21.3” LCD) at 1600x1200 and my FX 5200 seems to be sluggish at this resolution.
Matrox has built in hardware advanatages for 2D, and is spoecificlly meant for that.
The P650 should do you fine. I would avoid the G450 and 550 as they have slower RAMDACs and aren't as good with high Resolutions. The P750 may be a little bit of overkill but gives you a little more power, and the same goes for the Parhelia, even more power. However the P650 is fairly reasonable at around $150US. You will not get a Truer 2D image from either ATI or nVidia.

Well that's my two frames worth.

Thank you, I’ve been looking into those cards, but I haven’t heard from Matrox since the late 90s!
I wasn’t sure if they were as good as they used to be.
People do still like Matrox I guess.....
