Volari Review... Louder than the NV30 & SUX worse!

Well Driver Heaven doesn't seem very impressed by the Volari DUO. Loud cooling solution, Low performance, and constant crashing mark this review.

Let's hope their next DX9.1 solution offers more competition to the oligopolistic leaders.

Glad to see NFS:U played so well  . Performance in the other games was surprising, too  .

Maxtor disgraces the six letters that make Matrox.

Yeah, Sad really.

No Max Payne 2 for you!
No Far Cry For You!
No Prince of Patience (err... Persia) for you (unless you want to pretend you're drunk  )!
No COD for You (without major issues)!

I really wonder about the people who payed big bucks for this when it came out in Europe, I feel sorry for them. I would ask for my money back. Seriously and R9600Pro or FX5700U (or even FX5600U/R9600) would do better than the Volari. Bruttal!

I bet everybody knew what's inside the article before reading it.

Is Volari V8 Ultra Duo the worst graphics card ever made?

It may just bethat bad. And that's one heck of an accomplishment considering the crud littering the landscape.

Seriously I would hate to have a friend who owns one of these. It makes the Parhelia look like a top notch performance oriented gaming card in comparison.

XGI better fix stuff quick or they are going to be in serious trouble. You can't survive without selling product.

I don't think it's possible to fix Volari. They need to design a new card from scratch.

XGI have achieved few things with Volari though:

# set an example of huge ad campaign
# set new level of cheating
# new level crappiest hardware
# new level crappiest driver
# beat/tie NV30 in terms of noise/heat

The only reason they've managed to sell few cards in Europe is their ad campaign

I'd hate to see the performance of the rest of their cards. Remember that this is their best card...I'm sure they'd set all sorts of other precedents for crappiness with the V3.

Yes, sorry, that's actually THEIR(and Xbit's) statement. Just regurgitating it without thinking, sorry.

I should have said PS/VS 3.0 compliant/capable piece of hardware. I don't expect much, but it is supposed to be a whole new design on the 0.11 or 0.9 process IIRC. I just hop that if it's still in the planning stages that they learn from this experience. Because seriously this is TERRIBLE for them, and for those of us looking for someone else to press ATI and nV forward with releases.

just a feeling i have, but it seems liek the Volari is influenced by the GFFX era, or the "lets put flashy LED's on it, and big numbers in the specs chart so we can sell sell sell" era. which still affects us today

The rear of the card is almost entirely covered by a large copper heatsink. Additionally there are several components on the front and back which are cooled by thick ramsinks. Seated at the rear of the card are the 2 molex sockets. The Volari requires a great deal of power and so you’ll need 2 free molex plugs and at least a 400w PSU.
heh... i dont need to point out any areas of the above quote

XGI went one step ahead, they've surpassed NV in terms of ad campaign
