I'm eyeballing a NFL Blitz (which uses a Medium Resolution CRT according to
klov). However, I may be interested in converting this to a NBA Jam machine
(changing out the CP's and unplugging/plugging a jamma harness). I'm
wondering if a PCB that uses a Standard Resolution CRT will show video
properly on a Medium Resolution CRT. (I dont see why it wouldnt, other than
if it has different hookups/frequencies, etc..)

TIA!

if you truely have a med-resolution monitor then your SOL as far as jam is
concerned... your only hope would be if it's a dual-resolution monitor,
which you'd have to find the chassis model and look it up.

if you want to do this, your BEST be would be to buy a Jam machine and then
buy a seperate Blitz kit (if you can get the CP that'd be great, but you can
also run blitz using standard 8-ways). Blitz has a switch to allow it to
run on both standard and med-res monitors so it'll work in the Jam cab.

Steve,

Thank you very much for the reply. I wasn't aware that Blitz was switchable
between med and reg resolutions. Indeed, that's what I'll do then. Now, to
find a cabinet with a 25" reg/std resolution monitor. The pickings here in
North East, FL leave very little to be desired (there is one amusements
shop/warehouse, but they handle mostly rentals and charge two arms and a leg
for their cabinets with no supporting electronics).

:) I live in NJ which seems to be much better supplied with cabinets then a
great deal of the rest of the country...

I actually converted over a MK II cab (which had already been converted to
an SF III) into my blitz. I ended up building the 4-way control panel from
scratch (box and all). It wasn't difficult to do at all and came out pretty
nice. My only problem was finding an overlay for it. I eventually got one
and except for he side-art it works nice... I also have a one-on-one open
ice pcb in the cabinet and can swap between the two by just swapping the
jamma connector and the joy 3 & 4 plugs (I have 8-ways in the cabinet so I
can do this). My JAM cabinet actually has a Surf Planet pcb in it as well,
however I swap whole CP box's to use the special joystick (it's really a fun
game!).

Good luck, and if you need anything else just ask.

best,

steve
