Apparently my new computer and windows xp hates my Geforce4 mx 420...so I need to buy a new video card. NOw I don't know whether to go for the ATI Radeon 9600....or the Geforce fx 5600. What do you think is a better card. Or is there another card in that price range that is better.

Performance wise the 9600 is the better card out of those two for sure. However without knowing just what your budget is I can't suggest anything better.

Yeah the FX5600 series is far below the R9600s. The FX5700/U has broguht a truely competitive card to market.
The main thing is to find which one plays the games you want to play best. For most of the top of the line current games the R9600 series shows a sizeable lead. The main thing is to check reviews for the cards/games you are interested in.

I would suggest checking the R9800non-pro(not SE), and the FX5700 series, and the FX5900SE/XT/LX/EPV etc. Get the best you can afford (or ar willing to buy.

My choice for least to best;

FX5600SE
R9600SE
FX5600
R9600
FX5700
FX5600Ultra (both revisions)
R9600Pro
FX5700Ultra
R9600XT
FX5900SE/XT/LX/EPV/etc.
R9700 - FX5900 (really depends on the games you want to play)
R9700Pro
R9800

Then you get into the top card, and much more expensive..

That's my 2 frames' worth.

Actually I did that would be part of the "... Then you get into the top card, and much more expensive.."

Of course should have made that plural 'cards', but I was just trying to give a basic idea.

I didn't put the R9800Pro in either, nor the FX5900U or the FX5950/U. Yeah you MAY luck out and find that for the same price, but for the range he was considerng I'd be surprised if he'd even find an R9700PRO in that range, the R9800 and R5900 are just idea of... if you see one on sale for 'near the price' of an R9600 FX5600, then go with those.

Just a generic idea of what's out there.

I think Cleeve or Crashman usually posts a list from top to bottom.
