Hello! I have a computer that I support that has Windows XP SP2 on it.
Whenever I open Internet Explorer (completely updated) and Outlook XP the
Windows Installer runs. I have not tested with other Office applications.
When I give this user Admin rights to the PC the Installer does not run. I do
not know if this machine has been upgraded from other Office versions nor do
I know if XP was from an upgrade either.

My feeling from looking around is that there might be a problem with Windows
Installer. I'd like to reinstall it but it's a part of SP2 so I'm not sure
how to do that. So:

Any thoughts on my diagnosis?
Any thoughts on how to reinstaller Windows Installer on this machine?

Thanks for your thoughts!

Unfortunately neither of these articles were helpful. In particular, the
version of Office is XP and the article below is Office 2000. I've made
changes where applicable but to no avail.

I have reinstalled Office entirely. I have made appropriate regristry
changes. I have run the detect and repair. I have disabled the Windows
Installer via the policy editor...this worked for the Installer issue but did
not take care of another issue with Outlook stating that outlvba.dll is not a
valid add-in (another issue I have not seen sufficiently addressed). Plus I
didn't like the idea of disabling the installer for a long term solution.

At this point I think a reinstall of Windows XP SP2 is in order although, in
all honesty, I will not probably attempt this because I've taken up quite a
bit of this woman's time trying to troubleshoot. My current workaround (not
preferred) is to add her to the local admin group. This takes care of the
Installer and outlvba.dll error.
