Hello, when I go to my internet options and click on the Privacy tab I
notice that something keeps unchecking the pop-ups blocked option. I
constantly need to keep rechecking it while I am on the computer because pop
ups keep coming up even when I am not on the internet (internet connection
is cable). All the popups are from microsoft (??) reporting that my computer
is infected with spyware and I need to download some random product. Is there
anything I can do to keep my popups blocked option checked to yes?? Thanks.

Shan,

I think you have some spyware on your machine.

I would download Adaware from Lavasoft and Spybot Search and destroy (get
both from www.download.com) both are free. This will remove all the spyware
on yor machine.

Once you have done this make sure you download Windows XP Service Pack 2 and
enable the firewall. Or download a free Firewall like Zone Alarm again from
www.download.com.

Also Microsoft has an AntiSpyware program which is FREE
(http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=321cd7a2-6a57-4c57-a8bd-dbf62eda9671&displaylang=en)

Hope this helps

Simon

Hi Simon,

Thanks for trying to help. I already have the first two spyware item you
mentioned downloaded as well as the SP2 service pack. I did however download
the microsoft Antispyware and ran it, which did indeed find 11 things that I
removed. I then went back into the Privacy settings to recheck the no popups
box and not two minutes later I recieved another popup and when I went to the
privacy settings the box was once again unchecked.

Is there anything else I can do??

Shannon

Hi Shan,

MMMM.....

At what level have you set the pop filter?

When i was plagued by pop ups i was with BT on dial up. Now i am on BB with
NTL. When with BT i installed the google toolbar
(http://toolbar.google.com/googlebar.html) which did the job fine, but then i
found Mozilla Firefox, an alternative FREE browser. And i must say i am
converted. No more popups, tabbed browseing a better browseing experience.

What version of Windows XP are you using Home or Pro? Try creating another
user, and see if the same happens with the new user, if not I would delete
your user profile. First log on as another user to the system, the user will
need administrative rights, then goto C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME.
Username will be the name of the old account. just delete the folder
USERNAME.
If yuo want to copy all your favourites first you can just go into the
USERNAME folder and copy the favourites folder to another location and when
you create a new profile\user you can replace the favourites folder by
copying to C:\Documents and Settings\NEWPROFILE.

Hope some of this helps, if not email me simontaylor83@gmail.com
