Hi All,
I do video capture and graphics as well as play games. Unfortunatly the matrox g550 is not able to handle games well. I think that the 9800 128 pro would be great. I use two crt moniters. I run a stock system. When should I buy? Should I wait until the Radeon R420 is released and the prices drop. I would love the two fan asus 9800 xt with VIVO, but it is out of my budget. When and what brand would you get? Sapphire, gigabyte, ati, asus, hercules ? One forum suggested a sapphire 9800 pro retail for 230 at allstarshop. When will the new cards be released and how low will the 9800 price go? Are the oem ok? The dells look like they have a different heatsink. Do all 9800 pros have samsung memory? Any suggestions would be welcome. Nunchal

If you can wait until ~April, you should. I am waiting for the new cards, but I am sure the 9800pro would drop a reasonable amount too.

When upgrading your video card, if you can afford to wait, you should do so.

The Radeon 9800 pro does have the ability to play the upcomming system-hog games with good detail and could be descently OCed to more performance too. The only reason people are having probs with stuff like the infamous Doom 3, HL2, and Far Cry Demo is because there is no current standard of compatibility for them right now so they will run sh!tty on the best of machines. The final ones will run very much better.

Id get one now. And will not upgrade till the PCI express cards come out. They are as cheap as they are going to get for a while right now.

I am thinking about taking the plunge. Right now , recomendations are for a true ati or a sapphire. Is there any difference technically from the oem or the retail? I don't care about bundled games, just the specs. Are all the 9800 pros good enough? Nunchal

The only difference between the 2 is warranty length.
