Yeah, I just saw this a bit ago. I was wondering though, what kinda warranty does saphire give? I tried looking on their site to see but i couldnt find anything. I've never bought a radeon that wasn't from ATI before, is saphire good? I was thinking about ordering this card because I kinda fried my 9500pro yesterday, but i wasn't oc'ing or anything lol it was the cards fault or something, anyways, so I am gonna RMA it, but i dunno if i'll get it or not.

Okay, so I figure I'll probably have to spend about $200 for a card if i do end up buying one, so this is perfect, and even if they do fix my card that I'm RMA'ing, I can always sell one of them on ebay, shouldnt be too hard. The only thing that I'm thinking about now is trying to figure out what I'll lose by getting this bulk/oem thing instead of retail, other than keeping 80 bucks. From what I hear too, this card should last me for a good while, considering it will run HL2 good and that wont even be out for a while. Plus at $220 this is a steal. I saw it in the store for $300 today. Ok I guess all I'm trying to do now is figure out whether sapphire is good or not. Give me your experiences people, thanks :)

Oh yeah, one more thing I forgot. How does this compare to the 9600XT, I was reading that gforce vs ati post and they were talking about it in there and I haven't checked it out, but if you ask me, it'd probably be best to just go with the 9800pro huh? Well thanks for any info you guys can gimme :) I don't plan to OC the card, I've had enough nightmares about flames on my video card after this weekend lol. Seroiusly... the card caught fire.. i was watching. Pissed me off too lol, and i wasn't even OC'ing or anything! Fried my ram on it. Oh well, my first fry ;) Later

What's wrong with the black 9800 PRO's?

Are they known for breaking down or something?

Not that I am aware of. But the black Saphire Radeon 9500's were lousy compared to the red when it came to OC and soft mod. Ever since that, I stay away. I just prefer the reference design look of the 9800 pro to the orb cooler on the black ones.

I'd like some opinions. How low in price will the 9800 pro go, by the time the next cards are released. I for one seriously doubt they will drop under $200 in the US. I pick that number because 1)that was the lowest I have seen 9800 non-pro's go before they started to dissappear. 2) the 9700 pro is still almost $200, and 3) it can't drop too much faster than the 9600pro/XT and other midrange cards. Of course I am very surprised to see them at $217 on pricewatch now.

I'd imagine they will hover around $200+. The reason I won't get one is my concern that for $250-$300 there will be a new one quite a bit faster come April.

Hi,

I am trying to wait for april as well. I don't think I can afford the R420, but it should bring the 9800 pro down to hopefully 150$. I might not make it. My matrox g550 sucks at gaming. Nuchal

It wont get much lower than this anytime soon. I doubt any more drops until NV40 is released.
The time is ripe to buy.

I just sold two 9800 Pros about 2months ago for $260 on fleabay.

Forget the 9700 Pro when this is $20 more.

This is a good buy, but since games like HL2 and Doom3 won't be out until the new cards are, I'll wait.

Agreed. The whole 9700/9800 fiasco was merely a distraction when that kind of firepower was virtually unnecessary for the time period in which they reigned.
Unfortunate for ATI.

? Ah, I'm confused as to how you think I said anything about Softmoding a 9800 Pro. I said the 9500 black ones were not as good as the red ones, so I will stay away from the black 9800 pros also. I have a sour taste in my mouth from a black pcb/orb 9500 non pro 128MB that was a big let down compared to the red one that I thought I had ordered(newegg). To me I see the black ones, I see them as a cheap version, and just say no thanks. The 9800 pro black ones might be fine, I just wouln't buy one because the black 9500 was inferior. Is this clear?

Hehe, I had a better deal.
$225 for a 9800 nonpro about 8 months ago.. bought two of them.
Flashed them to Pros...
Sold them on ebay about 2 months ago for $260 a piece.

Best part of the deal, my machines are rocking stable, sufficient NV cards again.

I just got one of these in for a friend... how does the stock heatsink look to you guys... I have a Crystal Orb around I could sell him at cost if it would do a better job for him... along with some AS3, of course...

Does 3DTweak read it... does it overclock ok...

Be carefull. Allways use resellerratings.com to find out about a vendor. Newegg is good. Other's, if not most, aren't.
