Interesting blurb from Xbit Labs;

<A HREF="http://www.xbitlabs.com/news/video/display/20040209080502.html" target="_new">http://www.xbitlabs.com/news/video/display/20040209080502.html</A>

So either an FX5200Ultra + or an FX5600-.

Interesting to see what perforamance this new class of cards will bring to the equation, and if they will be priced lower than an FX5200Ultra (which are overpriced, and thus very rare on store shelves IMO) yet perform better.

Could be a strong contender if the price is right of course.

Yeah not really, I'm sure that everyone can find their performance level from I don't think we need clones of the crap. More FX5700U type products would be very sweet;

FX5200SE to FX5200 to FX5600 SE to FX5200 Ultra to FX5600 to Fx5700XT/SE to FX5600 Ultra Rev1 to FX5700 to FX5600Ultra Rev 2 to FX5700Ultra.

Seriously I doubt that we need it, but it likely helps them sell more cards to the MX/SE crowd who see an FX5500 non-ultra as a HUGE step up from their FX5200Ultra.

I guess we shouldn't cast judgement on them until we see them, but I don't expect much from this class from any company.

<b>HardwareBoss</b>, yeah but I think that's the name of the game now. Confusing the folks who would consume that tripe, is almost too easy, and really quite profitable I'm sure.
I think the se/xt/lx/pro/ultra stuff also makes it easy to prey on the ignorant. Look how many people buy the SE/XT models from both companies and are dissapointed when they find out from us that they were dupped. Imagine those who never visit a site like this. They never know what they're missing, but it's still sad really!

I don't know.

I don't think replacing the pathetic 5200 with something better at the same price point would be a bad thing, necessarily.

If it performs as good as a 5600 and costs as little as a 5200, that'd be a nice base offering for Nvidia. Certainly better that peddling the 5200 to poor suckers.

As long as it's not a slight clockspeed upgrade of the 5200, I think the consumer would be a winner here...

...of course, that's probably what it is. A 5200 with PCI-Express capability (barf) :(

That's just it to make more money. Plus to confuse the heck out of joe consumer. Who does not know what to buy. IF a puter store had all those cards on display would make your head spin. I'll have to check CompUsa maybe they have all those cards. Then ask someone to explan the differant numbers to me.

LOL! You beat me to that one.

MX4000 OIE!

<b>Cleeve</b>, one can only hope. I think it would make sense to have it there, but there is no guarantee it isn't just an FX5200 Ultra with a 25mhz bump on the core and memory for the FX5500 ultra, and then the same bump down the line. Hopefully it offers good value, but with it being UNDER the FX5600 in naming scheme, it does make one worry a bit.

I hope it's FX5700 based and won't have any freaking 64 bit memory version....

The thing that pisses me off is 128 bit memory cards become harder to find once 64 bit memory cards hit market. Which one is easier to find, R9200 or R9200SE? In my country, it's impossible to buy R9200 after R9200SE release. But in R9000 Pro/non-PRO days, I could find both of them.

I curse ATI/nVidia for their shiny new "64 bit memory interface" products.

I agree (on both counts).

I hate the 64 bit products, and they are only good for people wishing to have some 3 effects for their desktop wallpaers or screensavers. They still do 2D passably.

I do also hope that if they are bringing out another entry product that is is based on the strengths of the FX5700 line. The addition of the extravertex engine does seem to help, and even a slower crippled card with more tools would make DX9 at an entry level somewhat more of a reality more than just a PR tag-line.

I say both nVidia and ATi stop supporting all their cards
put them all out of production and make these new ones

nVidia
Graphzilla Junior (low end performance of Ti4200)
Graphzilla (FX5700Ultra performance)
Super Graphzilla (5950 stuff)
no more [-peep-] gay ass pros or non pros same ram for all of them

ATi
Chimpzilla Junior(9200)
Chimpzilla(9600XT)
Super Chimpzilla(9800XT)

they are all priced
(100)
(250)
(400)

Integrated graphics is perfect for these tasks. I don't understand where's the need fore 64 bit memory cards.

some people do not understand all those spec on the card package and they think that a 100$ card will , for sure, be good...

Athlon 2700xp+ (oc: 3200xp+ with 200fsb) , Radeon 9800pro (oc: 410/370) , 512mb pc3200 (3-3-3-2), Asus A7N8X-X

True, but these are for the people who have integrated 2mb graphics on their PIII 900, and expect to use longhorn.

I just read on a russian site (overclockers.ru), that the 5500 will be based on a slowed down (270/400) NV36, will be 128 bit.

Yeah, Xbitlabs just had a piece on the 550 being a declocked 5700, although they didn't mention the memory interface.

<A HREF="http://www.xbitlabs.com/news/video/display/20040212153045.html" target="_new">http://www.xbitlabs.com/news/video/display/20040212153045.html</A>

If that's true, the card will probably be faster than a 5600... so Nvidia may be using the 5500 designation just because the 5600 is already taken, and 5650 sounds gay.

Hey FX sounds gay but that didn't stop them before.

Thanks for the info from xBit, too busy to keep up with stuff right now.

Thanks snorkius, I've visited that site a few times, they have good stuff, and alot of insider info comes from Russia.
