FX vs. Radeon in CS

In the course of my 9800 Pro dying, I had to instal my FX 5600nu again. But the strange thing happened.. I play counter-strike a lot and I have better performance with the FX that with the radeon.. Is this possible to happen? The diference is quite big. More 80-100Fps with the FX. Is this normal?

Radeons are infamous for being bad with the CS engine.

Actually, anything based on the original half-life engine is pretty bad on the Radeon...

lol wtf are you running that didnt give you 100 fps in CS with a 9800pro rofl. I had maxed out 100fps with my 9500pro System below. Except mine kinda broke, so I'm RMA'ing it

I think it is.

I got low fps with it on, but now that it's off it runs 1600x1200x32 8x aniso 4x fsaa at 100 fps constant.

My view on CS;

Buy an old rig with mediocre cheap card for CS and those crummy old games that F'up new setups, or buy an Xbox for it.

Then, buy a good rig for every other modern game, for which most people pay the big bucks.

OH NO CS doesn't play on my TYAN Quad XEON Server setup.
Damn, Gotta switch back to a dual PIII rig so I can play at work! Must be the XEONs, Damn Vikings!!

thats not true at all


my 8500le could run 1024x32 with 16xAF, and have truform enabled.. cant remember it ever went below 60fps.. of course if your sitting on the bomb and it explodes, that will make any half old card chug becuase of the massive fillrate it needs

but really, it was better compared to my ti4200

it really depends on the map. ice world 2k lags like a son of a gun with my 9500 pro. other maps with complex shapes and transperancies will destroy any card. a freind of mine made a map that was almost all glass. i averaged 20 fps if i looked at all the glass, but 100 if i looked away from it. the engine is too antiquated to be able to do all the stuff people think it can do. but as far as game play, theres not a lot out there that can beat it.

yup yup, why do you think I'm still playing it, I love the stuff even though its old. Its just fun to play and everyone's got it. Now I just need my card back -_-. Sent it in today.

Maybe it was only on certain setups Phial, but I've seen more CS related Radeon slowdown posts than I can count.

I didn't make it up... I believe they even made CS specific changes in the Catalysts to speed things up, with limited success.

Then again, I don't play ancient games like CS, so what the hell do I know?
